right, started to do a bit of work on my bike tonight

i got a stainless steel bolt kit from (gaybay) fitted some of them - loads more to do

then decided to try an attack (fit) my carbs

i checked em over to make sure they were ok (not that I know anything about em) an notice the choke slide was really really stiff - i have another bank of carbs that came with the bike which i can compare with...anyways

so fixed the choke issue (bent slide)

attached the throttle cables, when i turn the throttle - carbs open easy, but when you let go of the throttle they stay open

hope all that makes sense

throttle was like this when i got it

cables look old - i emptied most of a can onto the springs on the carb to see if it "loosened" em up, but didnt help

any ideas?

**edit** just ordered push/ pull & choke cables

Take it you tried the cables to see if they were smooth in and out first, other than that the major problem is usually the cable run is too tight turns etc. It should have push/pull cables but if the rest is OK it will still work without the return one.

Mine did this.

I cut the throttle return cable off (as it was, for some reason, sticking) and the issue went away. I'll possibly order a new set of cables at some point, but lots of bikes work just fine with only a pull cable.

There's an outside chance it could be the other end of the cable - sometimes a dropped bike will have this problem. Bike goes over on to throttle grip - bar end weight gets pushed in and the pinch point between weight and grip gets compressed resulting in impeded return when twisted. That nice snappy return goes all pathetic. Unlikely - but possible.

Probably just need to try and carefully route the cables so they arent pinched or bent to aggressively.

take the tank off and take your time routing the cables before you go hacking anything apart.

I think that it's a safety device, supposedly enabling you to shut the throttle if your pull cable gets snagged on something and sticks.

However the carbs have a pretty powerful spring and you have a kill switch and clutch to use in an emergency anyway.

Hi

Also check that the return cable isn't adjusted up too tight.

All the best
