Hi,
My dilemma is this; my dad bought me a big spray can of this silicon tyre cleaning agent. I said "cheers, erm.. is it ok to use this on the tread as well as the rims?" "yeah" . so off i merrily went smothing all the rubber on my tyres with this stuff. few hours later and i decide to go for a ride. "SH*T! it's like riding on ice!" i exclaimed after two or three near drops. I carefully ride back to base and read the can Cool 'DO NOT USE ON TREAD' . So, my question is, how the hell do i get this shite off my tread?? I want my traction back :'(!!
Thanks for any help

Wash them with soap and water until all the tyre shine has gone. Rub your hand over the tread to see if it has gone and if not repeat as required.

And let the tyres dry before you try, so you can see any spots you missed. Use a course scrubbing brush to remove polish with the afore mentioned by Simon Thumbs Up

Yup, I agree with Yams a quick light sanding will remove the problem.

It is always worth reading the instructions before using something, just because someone says it will be fine doesn't mean it is! It might be worth letting your dad know before he uses any of it on his car tyres and then discovering the lack of grip between the tyres and the road surface!

I agree with the sanding idea. Either that or heavy duty cleaning fluid, some brake cleaning fluids work, but others melt rubber so be sure if you use this idea. We used to use it when i worked in a garage.

It is generally a bad idea to use sandpaper on tyres.

The particles of sand embed themself into the tyre and I believe can cause significant uneven wear as the tyre moves around.
