Hello folks, first post on here and new to biking. I played it safe and bought the test centre's favourite to learn on; a 2008 YBR 125 - with the power of ten snarling Shetland ponies at my disposal, I'm loving biking so far. Smile

Anyway I've been searching for the name of this plug and what its used for. It isn't connected to anything and has a rubber cover over it. I'm guessing it's a battery charging plug? but just wanted to be sure.

It looks just like one of those white plugs for RC car battery packs I had as a kid.

The bike is injected if that makes any difference.

Cheers!

Could be the interface connection for a fault finding device, follow the cable back see if it goes to the battery.

It is indeed for a battery charger to be connected.

Trace it back into the side fairing on passenger side where the battery sits and you'll see it's just connected to the battery and nout else Smile

Thanks for your replies Smile I did think it might be a diagnostics port at first but it only has two pins?

If it merely connects the two battery terminals together might it be better used for a tidy DIY accessory socket install? Hmmm. Rolling Eyes

That's exactly what I use it for. I plug it into a charger at home and then plug in a cigarette lighter-style socket when out and about so I can power my sat-nav or charge my phone.

Brilliant. So I'll just need a tamiya male plug and a 12v socket and wire them together?

It seems male plugs have female pins and vice versa, this will make ordering the part online interesting..

Just thought I'd suggest cleaning it up and
adding a dab of dielectric grease (OK, vaseline) to keep it protected
from the elements

Ordered the bits I need. The 12v-to-5v USB socket I bought already has eyelets for hard wiring to the battery so will probably just use them.

Thanks WD. I've removed the worst of the corrosion and applied a bit of ACF 50 in there, should do the job! Thumbs Up

Sorry double post, didn't want to start a new thread.

The USB accessory socket arrived - now I could go and just wire it up to the battery but since it's not a basic 12v cigarette lighter socket I have my suspicions that if it's connected to a constant live it will eventually (very slowly) drain the battery. So I'm guessing I could either:

A. not worry about it and ensure I take the bike out at least once a fortnight, which I imagine I most definitely will. Failing that, I have a kickstarter Laughing

B. Attach a male Tamiya plug and stick it in the socket pictured in my first post, then unplug it when I'm not using it for a long period.

C) go the extra mile and find a switched live (headlight, ECU?)

I'm leaning towards C. Someone said these 125's have another secret unconnected switched +12v live lurking around somewhere in the guise of a female bullet connector I could simply wire to.

Thanks for your help so far guys Very Happy Karma

My KTM690 actually had two sets of 'accessory' wiring; one that only runs with the engine running, the other with the key on but engine not running.
Much less likely on a 125.

If there's a live going into the switch gear for brake/tail lights, people will often take it off that, as the fuse is normally a good bit over what they draw.

That's KTM for you Wink dead handy I'm sure.

I don't mind whether it's ignition or engine switched, so long as it's off when the keys are out.

I read somewhere else about tail light, seems to make sense. Thumbs Up Not the brake light obviously otherwise it'll only charge my nav when the brakes are on Laughing

It's called an SAE plug, they are somewhat more common in the USA but seem to be cropping up more here recently.
Optimate chargers have moved to this more sturdy SAE connector recently.
What you have there is sometimes called a battery tender lead, you can easily plug in a charger or use it with a range of adapters for accessories such as heated clothing, work light and USB charger.

Just be aware it is always live so there is a slight risk of discharging your battery.

Thanks Doggone, I thought it was a constant live.

I'm half tempted to be a lazy bastard, get a male SAE plug, solder it to the socket wiring and bang it all in place. No messing with the loom as I don't even have a multimeter.

I suspect the draw will be so minimal I'd have to leave it for weeks to drain the battery, but I can unplug it anyway when I intend not to use it. Boom.

That's why I said if there's a live going to the switch - if the switch is on the live side you can take the feed from before the switch.

Thanks G, I've got the service manual up and the wiring diagram seems to illustrate that any solid blue or brown wire is a switched live. I'll have a butchers tomorrow and see what I find.
