Hey,

I recently bought a YBR125 and it came with 2 keys. Took it for a service and left them the spare then went back to collect it today. Needed a few bits doing etc - but they couldn't access the battery because the key didn't fit. Obviously I've got identical keys so that wasn't the problem. They've lubed it anyway but they couldn't get a multimeter on the battery to check it.

Where do I go from here? I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to do as the original owner didn't have another key either. Thinking

Will Yamaha even issue another key for a 7 year old bike?

So both keys did not fit? Are the keys the same? Are you sure?

Common to have ignition smashed on older bike (usually theft attempt) so end up with one key to start it and another for fuel cap/side panel/seat release.

Or the panel has been changed due to being dropped.
It's a minor mechanical job to remove the sidepanel lock and put on an alternative fastener.
For most owners there won't be much need to have it lockable.

Neither fit and they are definitely, definitely the same key.

The ignition keys fit the ignition as well as the filler cap but not the side panel. Laughing

I dunno, he said it had never been dropped and I'm sort of inclined to believe him - the panels/tank aren't scratched and look to be original, it rides straight and I'm 99% sure the mechanic who serviced it would have noticed, being that primarily the place I used builds race bikes and doesn't dick around.
