Hi.

Today I pick up my bike after having an engine rebuild (top end, crank bearings, seals ect) and noticed that the noise I though was crank bearings on the way out is still plaguing me.

Its like a whining and ticking noise more prominent between 5000rpm - 6000rpm and increases/decreases with engine rpm. When I turn the engine off while between 5000 6000rpm the noise stops, while riding bike I pull the clutch in, out, in and out at said rpm the noise goes, comes, goes, comes.

Its very annoying and quite loud. Im wondering if its clutch chatter seeing as the engines just be in two halfs and had work done to it so it cant be crank related. I hear it from the front of the tank and around both sides of the tank

Any ideas?
Il try and put up a video tomorrow morning

How high did you take the bikes rpm? How is it on idle noise wise?

Its a noise that has plagued me preRebuild for weeks.

Engine rpm hasnt been past 7000 rpm post rebuild
PreRebuild its been to the redline a few times😎

On idle it can be herd but only if you know its there.. 5000rpm - 6000rpm you damn well know its there and it drives me mad. Its kinda like this noise @ 1min 18 to 1min 21 :https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1aM_8tNGWgM

Obviously tomorrow il post an actual video of said noise

Erm,.. did you pick it up today?

I'm sure its highly recommended you do not take it above 5000rpm for a few hundred miles..

I think I did 200km with it not going over 5k, another 200 not going over 6k then from that I started increasing its rpm from about 5 miles into the ride every so often blasting it up to 10k then letting it come down on its own.

I'd go very careful regardless.

In terms of noise, did you have the clutch apart when having it rebuilt and parts in there checked for wear?

Only upto 7k on one or two occasions.. purley to build up enough speed to make it up 2 hills(wimbledon hill road and hartfield road) without labouring the engine.

have no idea what they did.. was just a rebuild with topend crank bearings seals gaskets and so on..

The gearbox oil will have to be replaced in about 150 miles so il take a look at the clutch and what not then.
im sure its nothing but it just drives me mad.

As for running in, I did it not so long ago back in october 2013 after I fitted a std topend kit (barrel, piston, rings, gaskets ect)
So I dont know why that was replaced, it had only done maybe 4 or 5k miles

8000km service on them I think, every service like that is new rings, but likely they wanted to replace more as its more money for them Wink

You can DIY the RS top end while it i still in the bike, just flip the tank up Thumbs Up
