Hi there,
I've got a gsxr750 and my tyres will need replacing soon and was wondering about other peoples preferences/advice. I use the bike at most twice a week and do not cover serious miles at this time of year. However I will be travelling around Europe for a week on it in august and would like fairly decent performance in the wet as the uk is unpredictable even in summer!

So which tyres do you advice and roughly how many miles do they last with reasonably calm riding?

Thanks in advance!

I've always just gone for the cheapest sets personally.

I've done 3 years on the ZX6, first 2 in all weathers, often commuting, not riding particulaly aggressively admittedly, then just the odd summer days off I take it up a notch here and there.

I've used new Dunlop sportmax qualifiers and Michelin pilots the last few years as they've been cheapest, about 140-160 IIRC.

I've had very roughly 7k out of them generally, I never really kept track of it in too much detail though so it might be a little out. I have noticed on my last set though, I let the pressure drop a bit on the front for a few weeks fairly regular riding and it seems to of really eaten away at it, having replaced the front/rear at the same time the fronts almost gone already and the rears got plenty of tread left, so maybe the cheaper ones are very pressure dependant on what you can stretch them to.

Wouldn't recommend the Qualifiers, had those on my GSXR750Y, same as the K1. They lasted 1700 miles.

I'd see if you can find some Diablo Stradas, they were knocking about cheap as they are discontinued but if I, hamfist Paddy can get edge to edge on the tyres in a day in Spain on an R1, you'll be fine. Laughing

You did not say what your budget is.

If you are after purely road tyre then Michelin Pilot Road 3 will last very long, inspire confidence in wet.

I buy Pilot Power 3 tyres (newer, stiffer 2CTs), not as durable as PR3, soon I'll be getting another set. But I do track days. I did 6k miles on them, 3 track days and still passed MOT today, with advisory about near limit wear though Wink

I don't really have a set budget along as the money can be justified, thanks for the quick responses

Something you might want to consider as well - i'm not sure how or where you're changing your tyres at the moment. A few years back I was lugging my bike tyres to a garage, taking the bike there, paying them to take the wheels off/fit n' balance tyres and refit the wheels.

If you get 'cheaper' tyres but have to replace them more regularly with all that cost involved it soon becomes less of a bargain. I'm now removing the wheels myself/with a mates help and have another mate who will usually be able to fit the tyres, if not its 10-20 down the local bike garage I trust, so refitting more often isn't so much of a problem if the budget tyres do last a little less.

I buy my tyres from https://www.fwr.co.uk/ as they do free delivery if the total is over £150.

I then fit the tyres and balance the wheels myself.

https://www.mandp.co.uk/products/list/Tyres/Tyre-Offers also do some good offers, but their delivery charges make a big differance to the total cost.

My preferance is for Pirellis on all of my bikes. But a few friends have Michelin PR3s fitted, which give good mileage and roadholding in all weather conditions.

Pilot road 2cts if your doing Europe, you need something that will do the miles, keep shape and grip.
Worked fine (no chicken strips or moments) on R1, FZ1s, GSXR 1000. Now running Pilot Road 3s on Multistrada 1200, but have to say I think the front is vague at speed.
Expect 5k plus out of them and they don't square off after a few hundred miles of motorway.
