Good Morning BCF!

A few months back I was outside a shop near my house after work, I parked my bike far to close up the arse of a flat bed van, he couldn't see me in his mirrors, reversed, destroyed the fairing on the front of my '09 ER-6F (black), pushed the bike over onto it's RHS and did some side fairing damage too - my own fault entirely.

So at the time didn't really have the £700 that Kawasaki were asking for to replace fairing, so used some electrical tape (wide stuff) and managed to patch her back up to a drive-worthy state, now I'm looking at replacing the fairing because I'm sick of waking up to a taped up ER6F (which I'm not getting rid of until November because of my 33 restriction)...

I have found some Chinese aftermarket fairing on fleaBay that comes in at around £350 incl. shipping. But not sure of the quality and if I need to return some people have stated in the feedback that it cost them like £100 to ship it back over..

So.... TLDR; I first of all, need to know what a reasonable price for full fairing for my bike is.. then I need to find somewhere that supplies fairing at that reasonable price (new or 2nd hand, I'm easy..). Thanks! Thumbs Up

Hmm id like more info on the accident did you leave your bike any length of time ? or was the driver in the lorry and just reversed ?

Im sitting thinking the lorry hit you its responsibility to see if its clear behind him ?? what if it was a pedestrian or a child etc etc you cant just reverse a wagon in the hope no one is behind you, so how is it your fault ??

I have had idiots squeeze right up against my car making near impossible to reverse out, still my responsibility to get out of that space without damaged the fool who left you no room ...

£350 is about the going rate for the full Chinese fairing kits.

It will be worse quality than the OEM and some of the holes wont be drilled or wont line up, but you are paying 1/10th of the cost of OEM, what do you expect?

IMO it's worth the gamble, and with a bit of fettling you can usually make them look near stock.

Jeddy,

I 100% agree, I even went to the police on the same day but unfortunately I got his plate wrong, the ending was MWM and I thought it was MWN - only saw him driving off, but the police said as I couldn't supply the correct plate number, they couldn't go any further with it (don't see why they couldn't do a partial match, I asked, she said they can't as they need it for evidence?) No CCTV in the area either, although about a month later, they built a new Tesco right next door, with.. you guessed it, CCTV. Thanks life..

Either way, many months have now passed and I don't really see any chance of digging it back up to claim on his insurance?

PS - I also think he had been drinking as he often comes into the shop to buy more cans, hence the speedy getaway.

**EDIT -

Cheers for the clarification Aff.

Ha understand, bit rotten but if he often comes in the shop then you could still get him and report you have seen him and get him done for fail to report accident etc. Your original complaint should still be logged, although without any witnesses etc your probably onto a loser, maybe you can give him some payback some other way as suggested before by some members on this forum Shocked

So definitely not your fault though mate you could have parked on the road opposite and the clown could have still hit it !! What a wan*ker !!

Yeah, I've put it down to a 'that's life' and learned my lesson. Although I agree he should have checked, I also think I was partially in the wrong. I would never ever park that close to someone again... it was silly in hindsight.

I'm hoping someone replies, knowing of somewhere that supplies 2nd hand fairing, at a cheaper price, as I don't think spending £350 at the moment is wise, especially when it may not even fit perfectly.

Thought as much when I saw this stuff on US eBay.. Also I am not 100% with all the feedback, not for my model but for some other models, people with Busa's, GSXR's etc. they were saying terrible fit, tried to return, cost a lot..

Just keep a look out on eBay, but depending on how many bits are broken you could end up paying the same amount for a few pieces as you would for a brand new Chinese set.

Will the fairing from an 06 model fits yours? I doubt they do but I might have some to sell if they do (not black).

This was not the case with my GSXR fairings from Auctmarts, everything was spot on other than the colour of the tailpiece which was promptly refunded.

The problem, going of war I have read, is when you mix OEM and Copies.

I've been very pleased with the Chinky fairings I've used. Good finish, holes line up as well as originals (especially once the mountings get a little twanged). Price is great. You do have to wait a while and the last lot had import duty slapped on, but still V. good value.

I'm curious as to why you and jeddy11 think this is the drivers fault when you admit totally to parking right up his ass? Given you probably know vehicles tend to reverse, you should've give it more space.

I did state in my original post, that this was 100% my fault, then realised a few posts later I may have contradicted myself.

I agree this was my fault, however I did agree with Jeddys comment RE he should have checked behind him before reversing, any car would have been smaller than the van and he could have potentially missed them in his mirrors, If I were a van driver, I would have checked.
