I have a 1978 Suzuki TS 250 with a rusted out gas tank. Does anyone know which tanks are compatible? I am having a hard time finding an original 1978 tank.

Thanks

Anything that'll fit. My mate rides a 400 Bros with a vfr800 tank on it.

I was hoping there would be other years that would have the same tank so I can keep it semi original.

Ebay is your best bet. Got a seat and exhaust from the US for my 1981 TS as all the ones in the UK had long rusted

CMSNL show that the tank is the same for 77 to 79 models, may be more if you search

Oh great I was trying to find out which years were the same but couldnt find anything. I dont suppose there is a way to fix a rusty tank?It is pretty much rusted through on the bottom section.

A friend who has a really good condition TS250 bought his new tank from NOS stock from an advert in the https://vjmc.com/ magazine.

I couldnt find anything on that site but that would be great if there was a source somewhere. I have been researching this por15 tank repair kit and it sounds like it might actually do the trick. Not too concerned about pinholes but more so about the thin metal from rust in spots and from what I was reading this stuff fixes that since it kind of turns into metal itself: https://www.amazon.com/POR-15-Motorcycle-Cycle-Fuel-Repair/dp/B005BFYQJA/ref=cm_cr_pr_sims_t

Nope. Those look like tanks from a few years earlier. This is what it looks like and I have only seen this year in this color: https://www.google.com/search?q=suzuki+1978+ts+250+tank+picture&espv=210&es_sm=93&tbm=isch&imgil=CMoA-DLkVzps7M%253A%253Bhttps%253A%252F%252Fencrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com%252Fimages%253Fq%253Dtbn%253AANd9GcSRHy3uVEZEi0I3VyFOH3M00Pqj230lef2yRMtZi3QE8oR4AFU0%253B800%253B582%253B__uiCmJ9woj8BM%253Bhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.rcycle.com%25252F1978SuzukiTS250.html&source=iu&usg=__H0lopWq_5FIhuGKjsi1JgbJdVpE%3D&sa=X&ei=d1P-UpTrA4btoATnxYKoBg&ved=0CDAQ9QEwAg&biw=1278&bih=739&dpr=1#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=CMoA-DLkVzps7M%253A%3B__uiCmJ9woj8BM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.rcycle.com%252FDSCF0134.JPG%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.rcycle.com%252F1978SuzukiTS250.html%3B800%3B582

I really dont know anything about getting a tank rebuilt or how much it would cost and I havent had any luck finding a tank from this year. I actually spent a lot of work sanding it, removing the rust, priming and painting it before I realized that there is a week patch of metal on the underside of it from rust. Ill have to research that POR15 stuff but it soundslike that might solve that problem. Much easier to just buy another tank though if I can find one.
