You would want to do some intake/exhaust/fuel mods but that pushes the price up further. Could always get a cheap second hand L and stick some road tyres on it. Wouldn't quite be the same without 17" wheels though.

They are too underpowered, DRZ would be a much better choice as Paddy says.

I don't get the fascination with the 250s - the DRZ is lacklustre as it is and these barely weigh less, but will have even less go.

Go get a GPZ500S and a 2 stroke 250mx bike with road wheels for proper fun mixed with a useful daily bike Smile.

Very slow, heavy and boring for a 650 single. Engine used in a good few things, however.

If £900 or under for a bit of a hack, maybe.

It won't be a massively super moto - Husaberg's can get down to that level but probably not with SM wheels. However, we're back to the proverbial hand grenade for an engine - light weight and lots of power, but often only single use!

I think someone on here recently got a CCM for that sort of money, might have been an R30 which I think is the DRZ engine one.

I paid £2k for a CCM 404e with both sets of wheels 6 years ago.

I'd prefer a Honda FMX650 for street use TBH.

So what are the specs on these new Honda 250 supermoto's? Is it a CRF250 engine? And how would it compare to the Yamaha WR250X that I really like, except for the comedy price tag!

Looks good but i'd still want the 450.

Work mate pilots an 02 plate, which he's rebuilt with a high comp piston, keeps up with my 650 no problem at all, easily got to have bhp in the late 50's.

Remeber there's a CRF250 competition engine and road engine.
(I presume they're different, the power output certainly is).
This is the road engine.

As above; the 450 is a competition bike, so a very different beast.

I've probably already said it, but again 145kg Shocked.
KTM690/TE610 are a bit less than that and have massively more fleixble engines - 108mph (on the GPS) two up with luggage on my KTM. Means motorway cruising and lower speed isn't so bad.

It should be setup for more low down and midrange power at the expense of peak power - while on the road you can use the clutch and gears to make up for a lack of low down power, in muddy conditions it is useful.

nice frame - but id personally be wacking in the engine from the cr250. that would wake up the otherwise nice frame and plastics.

If it's a CRF engine, with all the high strength light weight internals, then i guess it's just radically de-tuned from the competition motor?

There should be potential for another 10bhp to be gained over std if you know what they have done to re-tune it and can fit the CRF spec bits like Cam's High compression piston, and bigger valves etc.

CR250 engine swap would be a massive fail on a new street biased SM i would say!

Note from above - it's apparantly a CBR250 engine, and not the 'good' one, as you might expect.
From a bike with worse specs than a 30 year old CB250RS made by the same company.
Progress - woo!

easy enough to do a conversion and change out when suit ( i posted in crf250l thread)... 2 bikes for the price of one Thumbs Up

i done the conversion specifically to go on the local Go kart track but haven't had a chance yet as i dropped it and put a hole in the oil filter cover so waiting to replace that... hopefully get out next week Thumbs Up

Had it out on the road and is a better riding position than the L, I did a 13/42 sprocket conversion and seems to be a good combo for the road ie you can actually use 6 th gear now...took it to a big unused carpark with a cone course and its still geared too high for that.....not sure i trust it flat out in straight line speeds as the slightest pull/push on the handle bar and the bikes seems to ready to go into a death wobble Confused .. althou i have' track only' tires (used for CBR250) so maybe bit more unstable than OEM Question
