If you just want a set for your test then go to any J&S or whatever, find the cheapest in your size and buy, then flog on eBay.

Got some Held ones from Get Geared online, they had them on sale a couple of months ago. Can't fault them, best I have had by a long way. At the cheaper end I have had some pretty decent Texspeed trousers, got them on eBay

I'm very skinny and really struggle with textile trousers. Gear generally can be quite an effort to get decent fitting stuff at times, but the textile-trousers are by far the worst. I've tryed 10-15 pairs in the past and all have left more to be deseried, some totally useless, others just not quite secure enough to rely on them staying in the right places in an off.

I've got some recently as part of a set that actually seem to fit quite nicely. Problem is they are either winter or summer use only as removing/adding the zip-in thermals in anything textile for me throws it way out. From my experience i'd say its just a case of trying and trying in-store somewhere until you find the right one that fits.

I would ideally stick with leathers all the time as the firmness of them makes them fit me far better, but for walking about off the bike in summer its not really an option a lot of the time.

If you only want them for the test then do what I did: go to J&S in January and take advantage of the sales.

I ended up with all Armadillo stuff. It's fine for local use but I'll be upgrading it in due course. In the meantime I'm quite happy with Armadillo trousers, jackets and gloves, Marushin helmet and J&S boots all for £200.

I've ridden in the rain before now - most days - but last time I rode it was proper pissing down, I went a bit further than usual and I ended up with a wet crotch. It's not advertised as waterproof so I can't complain but my next kit will have that all important little blue sticker on it...

Ride recommend a pair in this month for under £100, could be worth checking out. However, it does depend on what you class as cheap.

I did my test in a pair of thick jeans with waterproofs over the top. Can you not do this?
Decent textiles will be a big cost if you've no intention of wearing them afterwards.

Kevlar jeans, https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=284906&highlight=kevlar+jeans
pretty future-proof if you maintain your weight.

Paired with something like these works well for general and practical use, over-trousers with 3/4 length or similar side zips make them an easy and quick change option.

Forded a flooded road yesterday that caused a bow wave which put up a wall of water entirely engulfing me; Ixon trousers and jacket kept me completely dry underneath. BUT! I hate recommending gear, as what works for one may turn out to be lucky - a couple of stitches out of place by the manufacturer, and suddenly what was great for one is crap for someone else.

Every manufacturer has product that fails - so when you find something that works, look after it, cos even if you replace it with the exact same item when it wears out, the next one might not be so good.

I have some texpspeed ones from ebay, comfortable enough but the zip failed quickly and some of the stitching is a big poor, they do keep the water out well though

I have a pair of RST textiles, definitely couldn't fault them except when its pissing it down with rain and snow and soaks through at the arse.

I'm not 100% but they could be the raptor 2 "pant".

I've commuted daily for three years in Frank Thomas over trousers, can't really fault them.

I got this set. https://eviron.co.uk/product/black-hi-viz-textile-suit/

Made in pakistan so may not be particularly great quality but theyre the only trousers that have fitted well and as a bonus zip into the also well fitting jacket, so its a full waterproof 2 piece. For the odd times i have to wear textiles i want something fitting as a priority as its for a lot of off-bike use too.

Armours the non-CE foam sort but fairly decent and a 10 quid CE approved RST contour back protector fits in the back pocket.

Im 5"10 tall, 38" chest, 30-32" waist and mediums spot on for me.
