When you were little, who made you want to hide behind the sofa?

Evil Edna from Willo the Wisp, Zelda from Terrahawks (and the scary dice things), the Cybermen and the guitarist from The Sensational Alex Harvey Band did it for me.

Oh, and the scarecrow dude from The Moomins books.

Davros - Still get shivers down my spine when I think of him.

The scene in Jaws where Richard Dreyfuss is attempting to get the sharks tooth out of the boats hull and the head falls through the hole made me spill my cola over my flares and drop my packet of Rainbow drops when I watched it at the Cinema (a very long time ago!).

I'm sure younger people think that 'hiding behind the sofa' is purely a euphemism for being scared of something on the TV - they don't realise that in the 70's we actually DID do it - erm or was it just me Confused

Magicians cutting people in half. I never waited to see the bit where they came out whole at the end.

Laughing When I was a [lot] younger, I first watched ET at my grandmas and yep I was right behind the couch for the whole film, occassionally peeking over the top to see what was going on.

I keep getting reminded of it by family members Rolling Eyes Laughing

I also literally hid behind the sofa - and a nice big blue one it was too!

We had a nice green 70s swirly velour three seater to hide behind. I could often be found there during episodes of Doctor Who.

Thing is, our telly actually looked a bit like Evil Edna, so that was just doubling the fear factor. Shocked

I also had an irrational fear of this weird shaped mirror that was in the hall and used to run past it with my eyes shut. I think I had it down as a portal to an evil dimension or something...

That scared me too, I remember being at my Gran's when Jaws was on and sitting with my back to the tv for the whole film. My brother had a toy shark that sat on the bath and I'd stare at it the whole time I was in the bath incase it fell in and bit me!!!! Shocked

Yep, Jaws is probably one of the only films I ever remember giving me nightmares. That and 'The hand', where a severed hand follows a guy around and kills people (can't actually that much about the film now).

Some git of a babysitter showed me American Werewolf in London whan I was 8. Shocked I still cannot watch that film even though I am a horror addict. Weird. More recently Mothman Prophesies creeped the hell out of me. Smile

I know it sounds really pompous but nothing ever made me scared as a kid, well, I mean things made me scared but I loved it!

That's when it came to movies/rides/jumping off stuff...I only shit myself and want to hide behind the sofa when I've got to do presentations at work!

wow I'd totally forgotten about that! That was indeed scary. It didn't freak me out too much but my sister was thoroughly scared and would probably freak out even now if I mentioned it!

I never really hid behind the sofa when I was wee.. things were scary but not that scary! Davros was fairly scary though.

More recently, I have a real deep down fear of the 'Bob' character from Twin Peaks. In fact, just thinking about him has made me feel nervous.

Who?

I know I'm locally famous for having certain "media blockouts" but.....who?

Anyone else not know these things?
