I wasn't sure where to post this, but hopefully someone might read this and be able to give me an answer.

I am thinking of getting one of those cameras we are seeing more and more frequently on peoples helmets, attached to bike in some way or even in peoples cars.
Can anyone recommend one? Something with a half decent picture so should something happen I could at least read the license plate of the other car/bike or recognise the face of someone else.

Like above.

Some Motovloggers on youtube have 10% off discount codes. "IAMSPICY" is one iirc.

Baron Von Grumble is another one, 'VLOGHIM' or something along those lines

With the SJ1000, what sort of mounting does it use?

I only ask as I would quite like a camera i could use a bulldog type mount for, like you can get for go pros and cameras with a "standard" tripod type hole in them.

Also, can you use an external mic on these?

The one think i want to try and minimise is wind noise when recording on the bike.

Also do they do a surfboard mount for it?
Sounds very good value for money!

I picked up a Drift HD 720 on ebay for 99 quid recently. Great camera and size, and the kit comes with all the mounts you need for the helmet.

Lots, see the Techmoan review. That said, I just cable-tied the simplest clip directly to the front of my lid, and slotted the waterproof case onto it, which works a treat.

There is a tripod hole in the case, but it's shallow. Again, all covered by Techmoan.

No.

You might want to look at the SVC200 then.

Have not got one myself yet, but plenty of vids on utube look impressive.
Cheap too. Can use it for time lapse video on the days off biking for fun.

I second action cameras.

If you live in/near London you can pop down to their offices in Chiswick for a look at what they've got.

The challenge is trying to find one without massive barrel distortion. Of course you then need to accept a slightly narrower field of view, which should be fine.

I have a chillitech from amazon for a helmet cam. £40 and does the job. I would suggest you get a cheap camera first then experiment with it before spending more.

This cam I fix to my bike. It has a rolling record function where it records continuously in five minute chunks then records over the old footage when the memory card fills up.
