Hi,

Could anyone help me? My raptor 125 is overheating, it seems to be just boiling whats in the coolant tank and causeing it to overflow. ive checked the thermostat and its opening/closing fine when i put it in boiling water.
it seems like its not being pumped round the radiator as one side gets really hot and the other sides just warm.
i haven't got round to checking the water pump yet as not sure if its a big/hard job to get to it.

Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks

Try flushing the radiator with a garden hose, could be a build up of sludge & rust.

Don't know anything about these specific bikes, but my first few cars had a LOT of cooling faults between them - generally age-related, but then bike bits are generally more exposed and more cheaply made.

The fact that it's warm on one place and cold elsewhere does suggest a blockage as Andy_Pagin says.

The flushing is an excellent suggestion, but be gentle - use a garden hose not a pressure washer.

Be *very* wary of any unblocking products you may find. The drains in your house are sturdy enough to handle a dose of Mr Muscle, the delicate fins of your bike radiator are not.

The condition's fairly easy to assess visually... does it look buggered with broken fins and rust patches? I've replaced rads in two cars and found it relatively easy and cheap. For one I got the original rad refurbished, at not too great a cost, and for the other I found a decent second-hand rad. Fitting was just a careful plumbing job - and do be careful, the vanes are both delicate enough to break easily and sharp enough to cut your hands up well.

Have fun!
