I know it's probably boring but anyways...

A while back my engine had piston slap. Instead of re-boring it we just brought a crashed CBF of ebay which not only came with the engine but came with the whole bike so this meant loads of spare parts.

A recent post on BCF made me think of the bike as the post was about a similar crash that this CBF had. The lad or had it crashed it on a roundabout in MK doing 20 mph "supposedly". But managed to bend the frame? Is it even possible to bend the frame at 20 mph? I mean I've come of it doing at least 30 mph and didn't bend the frame. Is it most likely a load of bullshit as to what happened to the crashed CBF or is it possible?

Depends on a lot of factors.
I've crashed a bike at low speed and done more damage than over 100mph (where in some cases I've got back on and ridden it back to the pits.)
Hit something hard and especially pointy and no doubt you can damage the frame at 20mph.

Very much depends on the accident.
Sliding down the road at twenty probably wouldn't do more than scratch a few bits however if you drive at 20 mph into a stationary object you will know it!!!

But still posted? Also shouldn't need telling that a post by me is going to be boring Rolling Eyes

What has been said though, true, but the guy didn't seem badly injured from it. When I came of my bike I didn't seem to slide for that long nor did the bike and I was defo doing at least 20. That said when you fall off it happens quite quickly.

Why would he have to be badly injured? Run into the front side of a car, bike stops instantly and damages itself whilst the rider turns into a gymnast of Olympic proportions as he somersaults over the bonnet executing a perfect double twist to land perfectly!

My bike was written off when I ended up under a van and I was initially only doing around 30 (ish) mph. I say initially because I was no doubt going slower at the point of impact, after locking up and sliding a few yards down the road first.

Also, I too was unhurt. A bit sore the next day but, pretty much fine.

if your bike hits the ground while traveling at 200 mph it "hits" with the same force as if it hits the ground at 20 as it is falling from the same height with the same force (gravity) some times you just get unluky with what gives out.

Yes it's easily possible to bend a frame at 20mph. Bike plus large rider will be knocking on a quarter of a ton, stop that dead at 20mph and you put a lot of energy through the spindly headstock.

I'd be inclined to agree with speed not being that relevant.

My only crash so far was a nearly side on hit at 30mph, but the very slight angle sent the bike sliding down the side of the car and then onto the ground - it was absolutely fine apart from cracked fairing/scratch marks on various areas and a bent footpeg/lever.

A friend who shunted into the back of a car square-on at 15mph however ended up bending his forks quite severely.

Speed means fuck all - my fazer was written off because of bent frame and forks and I probably connected with the back of the guys vehicle at no more than 20mph.

The bike was thrown up in the air by about 2 feet and landed on its side - hence the damage to the frame.
