Hi all, wasnt sure where to put this so thought i should put it here incase it evolves into a project.

Basically my step dad has a beat to shit chinese 50cc ped. I want something i can take on green lanes and not really give a toss about.

So the plan is to get the moped, strip it of all plastics, tidy up. Spray frame as i dont want to put the fairings back on.

Chuck on some knobbly tires and just rag it around the lanes until it dies.

What are the requirements/road legal ness of not havning and plastics on the moped? I will wire up a headlight/rear light/indicators/brake light.

I want to base it on a honda ruckus, but on a budget.... Budget being basically just for tyres.

what does everybody think?

Bonny did that in Asia somewhere so would probably be worth asking him with regards to handling. Obviously they have pretty non existent laws over there regarding the actual condition of the vehicle but assuming you have the minimum requirements for an MOT then I can't see it would be a problem legally. Probably not too much different to a road legal enduro bike.

For green laning it needs to be road legal (MOT, taxed, reg plate, all that get up) as they are public highways. I've not read that much into it but from what I've seen if you aren't road legal you can be nicked for riding on green lanes.

You don't need lights of any sort, you don't need plastics to pass an MOT on a single-seat bike which has been modified for off road use. Knobbly tyres count as modified for off road use.

You just need to find a tester who knows this.

You do need a horn and a numberplate. If the mudguard had a fork-brace built in, you need to have it.

Underneath the plastics will be lots of sharp bits of jagged metal to hold the footboards on.

You'll need to cut these off as they can be super sharp.

Itll also be super slow and wont even have the guts to pull you on road let alone off road. Not without tweaking it. 28mph is all its gonna do if its a 4 stroke.

The exhaust will get ripped off pretty quick too.

They do actually do scooter-X in other countries if you search for it.
