What time are they? Evening or daytime? If they are during the daytime, do you do weekend courses at all?

I attended a course in Sussex a few months ago. It lasted about 4 hours in total and was a brilliant evening and got to meet another BCFer, Flatbadger.

The course was free, enjoyable and informative (the conspicuity part was really interesting). At the end of the course we were all given a hi-vis vest and a decent first-aid kit for the bike.

Well worth attending and answers the question of helmets... when to remove or leave and if to remove, how.

Strongly recommend as many people as possible to do this... just in case one of them comes across me lying in the road/ditch/middle of roundabout!

Bit of necromancy here, but I did this course a couple of evenings ago and think it's one of those things that should get the occasional bump.

Echoing what was said above it's a really worthwhile course - run by a couple of bikers, they distill down the first aid stuff into what really matters when you are trying to keep a fellow biker alive until the blue flashing lights get there and you don't have the luxury of any equpiment other than what you are wearing. Keeping yourself and the scene safe, prioritisation of what to do with a bias towards biking injuries rather than general injuries, what the emergency services need to know over the phone, what information to gather for the handover to paramedics and why, etc. Plus, of course, the practical session on how to remove helmets - which, as I'm sure most people are aware, is generally considered a no-no (highway code etc.), but you may well have to do to save their life.

A nice wind down talk on visibility at the end too, and I don't think it was following the line that anyone in the room was expecting and challenged a lot of perceived wisdom (but, IMHO, in a good way).
