Can someone help me suss out what Honda off-roader model it was that had a 250 two stroke engine with oil in frame, and was made in the mid-late '80s (and probably beyond). It was apparently not available in this country, or if so, not for long. Someone mentioned theirs might be for sale but I don't have contact details and wanted to do a bit of online browsing about the bike. Trouble is I can't remember the model. And google isn't playing ball. Confused

Yes! Nice one you two. But straight away I'm wondering. Firstly, it's on an F plate - which of course puts it to '88 or '89. And yet the oil in frame model is the mkII which came out '91 / '93 - and this is definitely oil in frame. Confused

It is a MK2 in the picture. I am not a two stroke fan, but my own bike (DR350) had failed scrutineering an hour before the race and a Norfolk bike importer who was displaying his wares offered me the bike for the day. He actually offered me a KDX250 as well, but the CRM had more tread on the knobblies so I chose that.

I was really impressed, I think it had more torque up steep hills than my 350 4 stroke and it flew along, to the point where I scared myself with some near misses on sharp corners. I even managed to crash into my mate in the middle of an army firing range and me and the bike went flying in different directions, only the hand guard was damaged. A bit scary as we crashed off to the side of the marked track which was the only bit guaranteed clear of UXBs by the army.

I've ridden CRM250ARs, but the Mk2 and Mk3 were the best of the breed as far as I was concerned.

I handed the mud covered bike back at the end of the day and the dealer wouldn't even take any money for the hand guard. I think in the end he got four sales from various mates after I told them about his generosity and dragged them up to Norfolk, a couple of CCM600s and two KTM300s.

Not sure on the specifics.

But they're about as good as you get for a trail bike without it being a competition bike.

Last I looked, prices were very reasonable these days.
