News.

Seems like a funny period, but I don't know of anyone else who's still offering less than a full year.

Interesting....

I can see a lot of people being interested in 6 month cover, to coincide with 6 month tax. Would drum up a lot of business for them, if they would consider it.

I regard the biking 'season' for the power ranger / weekend warriors to be from April (or May if April's too cold) through to September (when the kids go back to school, maybe October if starting in May to prove how hard core biker they are).

So that's a 6 month slot. As you say, very tempting if can get insurance for that period that the cost doesn't leave you feeling sodomised.

Is there any reason this couldn't be run twice in succession to make a '6 month insurance', that could be useful at times. Presumably you will be getting no additional NCB or discount however many times you repeat a 3 month period of insurance though which isn't great Thinking

Be interesting to see how it works out at cost wise vs 1/4 of a standard annual quote. Expect they're going to make people 'pay for the privalidge' of a short term policy.

"Premiums starting at £32" = £128 for a year (binary posse represent).

I've had quotes as low as £67, and they doubtless go a bit lower, so it might come in at around 100% markup, i.e. 6 months costs the same as a year without accruing NCD. That about matches my expectations.

What might be verrrry interesting is justifying their "reasonable costs of setting up the policy" on a cancellation within the 14 day cooling off period. Brokers have been saying with a straight face that policy set up costs between £30 and £50. So, £2 for the actual cover? I think not. Wink

The minimum rider age is 21 and the scheme offers various levels of cover:

Comprehensive (maximum value £10,000)
TPFT (maximum value £7,000)
Third Party

Confused So is that the maximum amounts they will pay out in the event of a claim?

Notice that they only have a maximum on TPFT and FC. I presume those numbers are regarding claims for your own losses. You would have to be covered for more than that for third party claims as they potentially could get up into the millions if kittens are involved.

This is what I would have thought anyway, don't quote me on it.

Well duuuuuh - how can they put a limit on their third party liability?

I printed off an insurance document for a friend earlier and it seems she had got a year and three months cover through MCE.
Forgot to ask her about it.

They were offering 3 months free with all policies bought online (through their website). The website quote vs getting an MCE quote through thebikeinsurer for me was raised enough to make it essentially not 'free' though. Worked out about £10-20 overall cheaper for the whole 15 months vs 12 months factoring in the additonal monthly cost buying through MCE's website.

On a renewal for me it was essentially free. My quote for the year was almost identical to the previous year but for 15 months instead of 12.
