Seems a bit daft and could all be a big coincidence but since about 4 days ago, 3 electrical items have all gone faulty and I'm trying to rack my brain as to why.

First, my fish tank light unit wont stay on for more than about 5 seconds, sounds like the ballast has gone (Juwel). Heater & filter working fine.

Then my Nexus 4 started playing up, restarting itself, not charging but when it does will only take 1 certain wire, screen going weird, connected it into laptop and it said on laptop screen power surge from USB device. And now as of about an hour ago seems to have bricked itself (flashing red light)

Also my girlfriends iphone 5 wont charge up properly, tried different wires, sockets etc and just doesnt seem to be having it.

None of these are plugged in at the same socket, but was wondering if some type of surge or something could have caused it? Possibly damaged the batteries in the phones? Nothing else seems to be faulty as far as I know. As I said, could all just be a coincidence but its bugging me as why it all happened at the same time as each other

My nexus 4 has done the flashing red light a few times, leave it turned off and charging overnight, its worked for me every time. Its also slightly fussy about chargers, my Mrs' Samsung charger doesn't seem to have enough grunt to charge it while in use.

I can't offer anything constructively to this unfortunately, other than you may have gremlins living in your house somewhere.
