And it is fucked.

It starts up for about a second, the CPU_LED lights up during this time and then it all turns off again.

Tried with a spare PSU I had and no difference.

I think the mobo has died. Even though it says CPU error, it seems more likely something got toasted on the mobo.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can try?
Or a suggestion for what mobo to replace my P8Z68. I want to just got for the P8Z77 but it is quite expensive.

I washed the affected area with isopropanol and hair-dryered it for 10 minutes. Still the same Sad

I have it now with the PSU, mobo and CPU, 1 stick of RAM and that is all.

Even without the RAM, same thing.

Next time follow the rule to turn electronic items off and keep them off until they're bone dry again.

I fucked my laptop in a similar fashion, carried a drink and the laptop in the same bag and it leaked, except my laptop lasted a few weeks before it completely died, when I opened the case there were still wet parts inside and that's what killed it. Tried the isopropyl alcohol to wash the sugary deposits from the drink away but it was too late.

Learnt from that, dropped my old phone in the bath and switched it off immediately, removed battery immediately, dried for ages and it survived

Drink spilt, within 2 seconds my screen went blank and I reached behind to flick the PSU switch off. At which point I pulled the tower apart and tried to see where the liquid had gone.

I probably should have waited a day or 2 with the mobo in a warm room but a hair dryer and alcohol should have fixed it if it was going to be fixable.

Going to leave it in the airing cupboard tonight and see what happens tomorrow morning. Still upgrading mobo though. Laughing

Give it a wash in warm soapy water.... properly submerged. Rinse the cpu socket, don't scrub it for obvious reasons. Leave it to dry for a week...maybe two. If you can bury it in rice then do it.

After buying a new PSU, Motherboard and new i5 3570k I have determined the processor died.

Liquid found its way to the CPU socket and must have shorted across the pins but the mobo worked with another CPU.
