Well I promised to start a thread once I got going with converting the Chapel into a house. So here it is. If any of you didn't see the original thread click here. That thread was the buying and planning side of things whereas this will be the building.

This is going to be a picture heavy thread. Not going to write a great deal as it becomes a little tedious. Updates will be slow to begin with but once it gets moving it will become more and more.

Advice / Suggestions are welcomed. If you have an idea that you think would compliment the build then please feel free to message me. Always open to ideas.

So I guess I'll start somewhere near the middle with my initial plans. These are due to change a bit as I have mates who are architects that think I can make better use of the space. I will update with new plans once I get them back...

Anyhooo.... (apologies for shit cameraphone pics - they will get better)

Good luck, my old workmate did a lovely chapel conversion in Barnsley, it looks stunning, lovely spiral staircase inside.

Ok, got content up on Imgur which seems to be working fine. Thanks for that suggestion.

So this will be the last of the Potato phone pictures. Wish id used a decent camera from the beginning but there you go.

Still clearing main hall and getting it level:

THE GARDEN

You can't tell from the photo but this is around a 3rd of an acre full of brambles, trees, trash etc.

After a bit of strimming you could start to make out the size
https://i.imgur.com/GkYpsJ5.jpg?1

The old man chainsawing loads of trees down - he managed to smack me square in the face with a falling tree.
https://i.imgur.com/NSJxl0Z.jpg?1

All vegetation felled. Awaiting excavator to sort out leveling the garden and creating a driveway.
https://i.imgur.com/kqUFlHu.jpg

Excavator turned up yesterday and I got my brother to ride a dumptruck while I was at work - his office for the day.

This is how it looked halfway through yesterday. To the left of my man shed will be parking for 2 cars. In the distance towards the fence will be my bbq / decking spot with a view down to the valley below.

That comes to the end of my shitty cameraphone pictures. From now on they will be of more quality.

Wowwwwwww!
How exciting.

Somehow along the way I missed that there was a chapel on the property. Fucking awesome.

My only points would be:

1. Don't hack through all the vegetation willy nilly. There might be some awesome plants/trees that you are chopping down unwittingly. Take down a few that are in the way and keep an eye through the first year, make a note of what comes up/grows in each season.

2. Hold onto any religious (or otherwise) artifacts for now; it might look like old tat, but you never know what you might come across. Photograph and then store old tat away for future inspection/comparison later on.

I think i spotted a loose roof tile - you should get that fixed or you'll get some damp Smile

Looks a nice meaty project.

A chapel on the corner of my road was converted recently and looks real nice.

I work for the forestry commission and had a tree expert come out. They said it was all trash. You can't see from the picture but there are trees hugging the perimeter of the garden. Will show you that in more detail in some following pictures.

If I find any religious artefacts then I will keep them. We are re-using pretty much everything that was already in the building. Floor boards, oak panels, pews, furniture, big heavy oak 'churchy' internal doors. Looking to make it as authentic as I can.

Thank you for the advice though Smile Thumbs Up

Ha ha, just one or two.. When we pulled up the floor boards we found a stream running through the house so there were many boards that we can't reuse due to damp. Got to find a way to re-route the stream or run it under the slab through the house.

The whole roof is getting re-done while saving as many original tiles as possible to keep the look of the building as close to original as possible.

Where are the views, what windows can face that way - in your plan the master bedroom faces the front and the road?

Views are the other side of the house - unfortunately there are no windows that way. It would be lovely having a view out to the valley from our master bedroom. Maybe something we could have done in the future... planning authority are being funny about anything externally being changed. Couldn't get dormer windows in there either.

This update brings the project up to date.

One of our planning conditions meant we had to get rid of the gate and stone wall outside our house - so this opening which would fit an extra car fulfils that requirement.

Here is the new driveway - got some chippings down today. It's pretty big. Thinking of maybe building a garage in this space eventually. See how it goes.

The land was subsiding? Do you think you got a steal for £15k right at the moment?

Sad to see an old chapel being knocked down.

No the land wasn't subsiding. The land is solid. Had hell of a deal! Feel like i've won the lottery.

Yeah I couldn't knock it down - although I could if I want to as it's not listed.

This may be a useful tip for the garden.

I got some of the cheapest glypohosate I've ever seen the other day. Enought to do your entire plot for £30. I's called asteroid biocare.

You are going to need to emply chemical warfare to get that lot back under control.
