Hiya peeps,

Wifes had an accident on her scooter and it looks like she will be at fault. last year her premium was £90 any idea what the likely increase will be for a learner having had an accident? We'll be getting her renewal through the post in a month and wanted to know if its worth me buying her a replacement scooter or keeping her off the roads for a while?

There is no telling with insurance companies. If any mere mortal could figure out the logic they use for insurance quotes, I'm fairly certain the world will come to an end.

Best bet is to put her details into a comparison site, adding an at fault claim and seeing what it churns out.

Based on Paddy's experience, have another 10 accidents quickly and the premium will come down.

Really: there's no way of knowing. Even if someone were in the exact same circumstances today, that won't apply next month.

I'd expect the cost of liability to be a factor, since when you have an accident the insurers sometimes ask for the cost of the claim.

If she just rode into a parked car and scratched the bumper it won't be too drastic. If, however, she just ploughed a bus queue and killed a couple of school kids, I'd expect she will become uninsurable.

Just run a quote for being at fault for a claim with personal injury, was an increase of around £150 Laughing Didn't lower my NCB though so YMMV.

Bloody insurance minefields Sad Worst thing is, despite a wing mirror being broken, the chav's were traumatised, whiplashed and had "Soft tissue injuries" and a visit to hospital. Still, worse case scenario, its cost me £90 for the hassle Smile

Just FYI, when you write up the incident for your insurer, you can and should go ahead and express that you think they're fraudulently claiming whiplash. Just toss those words in there, and their fraud prevention system will pick it up.
