Hey. My restriction is up in august and am looking to get a late 90's sportbike, can't really afford anything newer at the moment. Have always liked the looked for the gsxr srad but heard mixed reviews. Also considered a cbr 600f-4 but they seem to hold their money a little bit more. Any one got any info on both bikes in terms of what they're like to live with and how well either of them can do a short commute as may get used for that. Thanks.

What's your budget?

K1 is quite a lot nicer engine-wise than the SRADs.

Depends what I can save really, was looking at the k1/2 also but just wanted to know what people had to say about them. Not looking to spend more than 2k.

I'v not owned mine long enough to be able to tell you about reliability, decent enough around town for what it is, at 6 ft im fairly cramped on it, feel like my chin is resting on my knees.

I'm 5 foot 8 so shouldn't be too cramped hopefully.

Ok, well on the K1 front:

I've owned a K1 and a K2 600. The K2 has prettier mirrors and a stainless exhaust system, other than that there's not a lot in it. It's worth paying the extra for a K2 imo because you don't have to deal with a rusting exhaust system.

Build quality is good, contrary to Suzuki horror stories. Really nice engine and gearbox, fairly gutsy low down for a 600, too. Mine has been remapped with a BMC filter, and the induction noise is utterly addictive.

They're fairly roomy as far as sportsbikes go. I did 2,500 around Europe in two weeks on mine in the summer, with a pillion, and I'm 6'1".

Not great on fuel. Brakes aren't the strongest in their class.

Been considering selling mine, but I have no idea what I'd replace it with.

Reliability has been spot on for me. Mine has just ticked over 30,000 miles, I think I did something like 5000 in three months and it never gave me any concern. Worth listening for camchain rattle on cold start up - My first one developed a rattle somewhere around the 40k mark.

FZR600r, or a Thundercat. Same bike, essentially. Do it. Cheap as chips.

I was gutted when mine was nicked.

It gave me so much confidence, and i got edge to edge on the tyre without even trying.

Had mine for a year, ridden rain or shine never missed a beat, only thing I've changed apart from the usual service items, cct, and a tyre, does around 45 mpg, it does have no low power as said already, and you have to work it to go fast, go round corners lovely..

I own a GSXR SRAD (750) but I have to agree with Cansa with the CBR suggestion. They're just such good bikes for little money.

I have a 600 srad and I love it. Prettier than most as it's got the corona fairings too.

As a new rider you'll find that it's all you need for now, I use mine as a work horse and nothing ever really goes wrong with it, I run mine on a shoe string and has only let me down after I binned it. All fixed now.

As for the cbf, it will hold its value much better than the gixer, though will you love it as much?
