Evening all. I recently went for my direct access over a 5 day course. Reason I opted for the 5 day course is that prior to day one of the course I had never ridden a geared bike. I have been on my 125 scooter for well over a year however.

Anyway long story short I aced my Mod 1 with no minors and almost aced my mod 2 (1 minor) but then about 2 mins before returning to the test centre I got too close to the kirb during a right turn and that was considered a major fault.

Needless to say I was pretty annoyed. Anyway I've since realised I've actually done pretty ok. A week ago I had never ridden a geared bike and never sat on anything bigger that my piddly 125 scooter. And here I was smashing through mod 1 and having a decent go at mod2. I was doing my DAS with guys who had been riding geared bikes for years one of whom failed mod1, and another guy had his 4th attempt at mod2 same day as mine!! Fortunately he passed!

I've re-booked mod2 for 2 weeks later as there has to be a clear 10 working days between tests.

Anyway I just wanted to remind all the new riders out there that it's ok to not pass first time and it's ok to not know it all from the outset. Fact is you will pass, it's just a case of when. Now I'm going to get back to browsing dirty pics of CBR600RR I'm going to buy when I do pass in two weeks time!

Ash

I passed mod 2 on the third attempt. Now I teach people to ride motorcycles.

Can be done.

Unlucky on the fail but you'll get it next time.

Cheers Pinky. The most annoying thing for me personally is the cost associated to the test retake. But will be money well invested u hope.

Oh and good luck Dean! Remember the key to the slow manoeuvres is to keep the throttle busy and play the rear brake to keep speed controlled.

It's only a waste of money if you give up and do not pass. Throw money at it. It'll all be worth while in the end.

Indeed. Had my eye on a nice little 2005 number for a while. Finally convinced the guy to let it go for a decent price once I pass.

Commuting will get a tad more interesting me thinks!
