How to disable laptop keyboard input?

Long story short:

Got water on my laptop and it survived but the only part of the keyboard that works is the function keys.

So when I turn it on it doesn't recognise the keyboard, and I don't know if this issue is connected or not but it means that every time I switch it on it takes ages to load and goes to a weird selection screen where I have to tell it what keyboard I'm using. And from there it's a real pain to get any further, because the keyboard doesn't work...

However I have now got hold of a USB keyboard and it works now. But the only problem is that when I boot up the laptop, it tries to detect its own keyboard first and presumably gets confused because the vast majority of the buttons don't work, and so I have to wait for ages and go to this daft selection screen every time, just for it to then boot up successfully the second time once its aware of the USB keyboard. It takes about 5 minutes to load every time, which is a real bore.

So I just wonder if it would be possible to tell the laptop to totally ignore or 'uninstall' its in-built keyboard and instead look immediately for the USB one when it boots up? So that way it might bypass all that nuisance stuff I just explained.

What laptop (make and model)

Why not replace the keyboard,

Most keyboards are cheep enough on fleabay, and typically dont require to much dissasembly to replace
often a top bezil is held on by clips and the keyboard itself is only 2 or 3 screws and ZIF connector
