Evening all,

Slight issue tonight leaving work...I sheared the gear pedal off at the joint luckily I was about 500 yards from the car park going up into second, so no drama just parked the bike up and got a lift home from a colleague.

Shirlaws have the part in stock and will fit it tomorrow morning if I can get it to them but the problem is the bike is now stuck in Dyce and not really in a state to ride back into the cc.

Cars Recovery are quoting silly money to take the bike from a to b - which IMO is daylight robbery.

Don't have access to a bike trailer/van either...any other bright ideas? Or someone with a bike trailer who might do it for a bit of cash in hand?

Thanks.

Google suggests it's really not far.

What's left of the pedal?

I'd just stick it in second and ride carefully, probably.

Or use the stump if there's still some left. Or drill a couple of holes and add some to the stump.

Or just get the part and fit it yourself, which should take 2 minutes if there's no other problems.

Nothing left of the stump at all, clean off, obviously I didn't have a drill so I have secured it and left it for now. Going to head out later tonight when the roads are quiet to have a go at moving it in second gear but I'm trying to prepare for the worst.

A monkey wrench can often be used as a gear lever (make sure it's tied close so it can't be unintentionally released).

I'm off out tonight to try and drill a bolt through the remaining part of the pedal. Even if it means getting it into second and taking it easy it will be a small victory!

Thanks for the offer mate - very good of you.

Eventually we went for a vice grip on the remaining pedal and made sure it was secure - I limped it back to town and got it fixed at Shirlaws on Saturday morning - boy there was top notch.

Glad you got it sorted.
