That sound...so many memories! I think putting the expansion chamber exhaust on it actually spoiled it a bit. Lost a bunch of midrange and the sound was just less manly. Laughing

Because I'm bored at work an reminiscing:

After riding from my parents place near Romford, Essex to Southampton without using motorways. It took SO LONG:

After attempting to ride home from a friends in the snow. I snapped off a footpeg. Sad

Sounds good Cool . 2T bikes are just us much about the sound as the go so a nice spanny is needed I think. I love to keep my bikes original, apart from the exhausts. Got a lovely set of OX Racing spannys on the tzr250 and it sounds like a little gp bike.

Get a decent exhaust on that RXS for a bigger grin.

That vid has made me want to go and tinker with the tzr. Off to the garage now Razz

That motor is sweet as a nut. I'm not used to hearing one without considerable piston slap Laughing

You might want to sort out the oil warning light - that should be on with the bike in neutral. Not having a warning light flash when you get low could lead to something nasty... But it seems fairly common for people to mistakenly think the oil light shouldn't illuminate at that point and fiddle with the wiring...exactly the same had been done on mine when I first got it.

There are very few RXS pipes left in that kind of immaculate nick. The weather soon eats into them when they're out and about every day, which suggests this one has had a very easy life.

Sam, nice luggage setup! Can't wait to try my own Smile

I'm very impressed with Carvel, got his fixed up and MOT'd before mine! Luckily he's coming over in the morning to give me a hand Wink

My new speedo cable still not arrived. Seller sending replacement in the post. New numberplate plate has arrived and fitted now too. Local yamaha garage were very helpful with sourcing all the correct engine bolts for me too, all for free! Thumbs Up Woodford Motorcycles in NE London. Great guys.

https://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/doovydoo/Photo15-03-2014091121_zps11eb9fb0.jpg

New chain has also arrived, in what looks like soy sauce. Very odd.

Also...

Here's another video, this time of it running properly with some forward momentum!!

The sound is so good, engine nice and smooth!
Thumbs Up

https://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/doovydoo/ScreenShot2014-03-15at234747_zps8ae77958.png

I've been attending to a few of the minor details here and there such as matching side panel bolts, replacing odd engine bolts and a bit of surface rust removal. Looks like it is overflowing the carb a bit when off and fuel tap left on though so will take apart and check float and needle.

Cannot wait to get it on the road to properly open it up!!

Thumbs Up

Fairly productive day out in the sun! Carvel came over, big help with stripping the bike and checking things through! Got a few bits added to shopping list, such as a fuel tap, new carb drain screw (one that was in there was a self tapping screw?), new front brake plate (current one has a speedo cabled lodged in tighter than a badgers bum), and sprockets to be done soon too along with the chain.

27cows - got the oil light working! Thumbs Up It was the two connectors under the seat that were not connected Laughing

Got the squeakiness to stop, turned out rear wheel needed greasing up!

Anyway, some photos..

Bye bye Ollie! Thanks for the help Mr. Green

https://scontent-b-lhr.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/t1.0-9/q71/s720x720/1503925_10152278641414513_1102807452_n.jpg

So I've got a new front brake switch on the way, once that is fitted I think I should be able to get it through an MOT!! Then ride over Ollie for the next stage, which will be chain, sprockets (he has some supposedly for me!) and fork seals (one is slightly weeping).

Good to see there's still a fair few RXS100s out there laughing in the face of emissions guidelines Laughing

Doovy, are you missing the 'Yamaha' badge that locates across the lower fork yoke? I think I know where I can find one if you have problems sourcing it. (Plymouth bike breakers is an old style Aladdin's cave and great for bits off anything! Very Happy )

Re the carb drain screw - if some divot has put a self tapper in there, check the thread for damage. Can't imagine putting a self tapping screw into the soft alloy of a carb is going to do it much good Shocked

Thanks, yes I noticed it is missing! I have ordered a new one actually from Thailand, they have a few pattern parts for them over there Thumbs Up If you do see one in a bike breakers though I may be interested for the 'authentic worn look' Laughing

Yes, thread seemed to be okay, have managed to get a bolt in there and sits tight but just not long enough. Thanks for the PM, if you do find the bottom of the carb, and drain screw I may be interested in both if mine seems to be a bit buggered! Thumbs Up

Somewhere in the region of 500 odd mile round trip with 10+ hours in the saddle for me to get down South, that & I'd likely be bankrupt afterwards if I rode the RXS like I usually do (40-45mpg) Razz

Right, UPDATE!

First, let me say thank you to a few people.

Arrow 27cows. What a gent! I now have a working carb screw thanks to you, and I very much appreciate you sending it to me so swiftly Thumbs Up I've now got my carb all back together and the screw is working how it should Smile

Arrow Carvel. Well, what can I say. Not only did he come visit me and spend most of last sunday taking the bike apart to fix a few things, but has been on call 24/7 almost on Facebook and whatsapp to talk me through things and help me out.. couldn't have got it all sorted without you dude! Thumbs Up We still have the fork seals to replace as well as chain to fit, plus the sprockets which Carvel has kindly donated to me!

So - you may asking.. why all the thanks? Well - I think the RXS is now ready for MOT!

- Replacement front brake plate fitted as old one had a speedo cable stuck solid and blocked in there

- Speedo cable fitted (missing circlip but have secured it in place, all working)

- New front brake switch fitted, lights up rear light now when braking. Old one just disintegrated as I took it off!

- New fuel tap fitted. Old one was super stiff.

- Carb cleaned and adjusted (I took the carb on and off about 30 times overall to get it set up right)... had to adjust the tang a bit, and set the overflow pipe to point upwards for it to work all good!

And for some pics!

Mmm toys..

https://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/doovydoo/Photo19-03-2014180712_zps6038411d.jpg

Shiny new tap!

https://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/doovydoo/Photo19-03-2014181039_zps58ca3b99.jpg

Tap fitting and carb adjustment time..

https://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/doovydoo/Photo19-03-2014184331_zps9634777b.jpg

https://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/doovydoo/Photo19-03-2014184336_zps2629df1f.jpg

All done!

https://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/doovydoo/Photo20-03-2014211923_zps85456477.jpg

https://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/doovydoo/Photo20-03-2014211935_zps73411ddf.jpg

Literally spent 4 hours last night on the carb alone.. then finally finished it this evening. Took me ages to get the float height set, having never done one before. Pretty simple now I've done it but took a bit of trial and error.

Put everything back together and gave it a quick test, all seems good Thumbs Up

Think I may book an MOT tomorrow then, for Sat morning Mr. Green

What about making it a 2T rideout. I would love to see a bunch of these RXS100s but don't have one myself, I do however have a 2T and am more than prepared if available to help do my bit by adding to the blue haze pollution.

Good work on the fettling of the bike, coming along a treat. Love to see these classic 2Ts given another lease of life.

I hated mine because it was an unreliable piece of crap, but I'd probably have another one. I just always wished it had 12v electrics.
