...fire extinguishers?

Not really a great thing to order online cos of the postage and packing (they're heavy!) so has anyone spotted any in the shops that are good value? Or has anyone got connections and can get them cheap?

Note: I've only looked in Halfords as the prospect of checking B&Q et al on a Sunday is just too terrifying. Looking at different sizes, the tiny ones aren't good for more than a few seconds, so maybe something a wee bit bigger.

Ta. Thumbs Up

I'm suprised it's tricky to find an online chubb shop. Keep getting directed to their main page and it's not an online shop at all.
Just going to have to keep googling it I think.
B&Q or Homabase seems to be your best.

Sorry I couldn't help further (or couldn't be bothered to google it longer than a few minutes anyway!)

Hi

Loads of places around that sell them, but probably best to try the local specialised dealers. I do know someone local who sells them for a living, but not really much use to you!

I would say to get one that can be refilled / serviced.

Also, what do you want to put out? For example if you have smoldering wiring on a car then you will probably find that either dry powder or CO2 will be fairly useless and water would be best, but water will be fairly useless on a petrol fire and dangerous to use on a mains electrical device.

All the best

Keith

If you want a small one then places like Halfords or Autoworld sell them, or other car suppliers. For the larger ones try somewhere that sells gas bottles, like a Calor gas supplier, or an office/business supplier(Makro). Not too sure about the last one though.

The last one I got I stole from work so not much help on where to purchase them I'm afraid. Sad

Laughing at the Max Power ones!
If it's for home use I'd say it's better to go for the powder ones. You get better coverage and they will put out more CO2 that the CO2 extinguishers. Also you can hoover it up after Smile
Or you coule just buy a few big pots of baking powder and leave one in each room - quicker than running around the house to wherever you left the single fire extinguisher.

allow me to voice my opinion, having used pretty much all fire extinguishers that are availible

you want Foam (AFFF), it has the widest range of uses, carbonacious, flammable liquid and even electrical, there are simply different methods of attacking the fire, depending on whats burning

obviously in an ideal world, you want CO2 as well, which is most effective on electrical, but isnt the best for fighting other things, as it doesnt smother the fire, and so wont prevent re-ignition as well as others might

you can fight electrical fires with AFFF they just advise you to fight it indirectly, i.e. bounce it off a wall

pretty much the best extinguisher you could buy for your home, and can be re-filled fairly easily if you have access to HP air

CO2 extinguishers have to be sent away to be refilled

Powder is a bad idea, its very toxic, if you get it in your eyes you will know about it, and using in a confined space is very unhealthy, also, when used, it gets everywhere, and above all this, its not designed to fight fires on its own, its best to back it up with something else so avoid powder

AFFF can be purchased online here, https://www.fireonline.co.uk

as for buying, offline, no idea sorry
