I need to get a parking permit for my car but in my wife's name. It's actually her car but I bought it for her in my name and remains that way on the V5.

They (council) want a photocopy of the V5 for proof but since I have this car and my works van to get permits for and they only allow one permit per resident I'm thinking why not just photocopy the v5 then scan the black & white photocopy and change the name with software.

I don't want to change the 1-owner status of the car by transferring the v5 to my wife but equally I don't want to get caught out by some legality issue. I can't think of any way this could be illegal - I 'm not trying to gain a financial advantage or pass it off to a buyer, just trying to get a parking permit allocation, but I thought I'd throw it out here just in case.

The person who will be checking it probably does 100's a week and hates their job as long as it isn't a shit job they won't notice/care.

It's the council; it's not like they're real people.

I had a similar situation, although my v5 is misplaced rather than in the wrong name.

I rang the council and had a moan at them for not processing my (non existent) application that I had "sent 3 weeks earlier" and got one in the post the next day Laughing

I've never done this with an insurance document or bill, ever.

I've not spent hours in photoshop perfecting a photo ID either Shhh!

If you want something done, feel free to PM me the one you have and the one you want it to look like (ideal if you have both names on a V5, 2 seconds job Wink

Done it - I figured that if they were going to cross-check the owner they would only need the reg so they'll take the v5 scan at face value, so I cut the watermarked box out with GIMP, blanked the name using clone tool to keep the fudgy background (actually the tick boxes from the other page showing through then copy-pasta'd letters to make the new name until all I had to do was make a B from a R, and a Z from a V and an E with a few added pixels.

Impressed myself with the result, but then just as if the forces of nature themselves had been outraged by my malfeous wrong-doings, the bloody printer has ran out of black in and it's printed out a nice shade of pink Very Happy

Pink is, after all, the colour of lies.

No, you're right but it's what they want to see before they issue a permit to park. They just want something to say that the person who drives it lives here.

I heard a tale once about a chap who had just bought a bike that was out of tax. He got insured on his new ride but didn't want to have to wait for the cover note to arrive to tax it. To expedite things a little the jammy bugger photoshopped his old insurance cert have the new bikes details, and went down the post office to tax it.

Does the post office not now put the V5 or reminder number into the computer which tells it if MOT and tax are valid? Same way paying tax online does?

they do in N.I and the DVA do send out a VED and a MOT reminder one month before they are due, but then the buggers make us display an MOT disc on the vehicle so everyone knows if it is legal or not.

Not a problem for law abiding citizens.

Wish VOSA would send out an MOT reminder like DVLA do with the tax. They'll charge you to send a text, but I'll delete that or forget it, whereas I can leave the DVLA reminder in my IN pile and I go through that every day so keep seeing it until I pay it.

We have to display WOF stickers in New Zealand too. Except we also have to have the WOF done every 6 months if your car is over 10 years old, 12 months if its newer than that, although in July it changes and anything after 1/1/2000 goes to a 12 month WOF for the rest of its lifetime. My car is a 97 Scooby Legacy twin turbo so still 6 month tests for me.

Many years ago someone I know got caught riding a cagiva mito without a cbt, tax, mot or insurance. Blagged a 7 day wonder and made up fake docs for all of the above with the exception of the tax which they used the fake docs to acquire.

Took em down the local cop shop just before closing time, rushed em through with the receptionist and got away with it.
