How on earth this car managed to get up there I will never know. Either way, slammed into a pedestrian post. This is a busy 30 mph road but traffic rarely goes above 20. The amount of people I see on their phones going down there is unreal. Anyway, that was my commute this morning!

[EDIT]

Found out this was early hours of the morning when there is no traffic so likely took the turning too quickly.

The car is pointing in the right direction for traffic turning right from great eastern street onto pitfield street. It was probably going too fast to make the corner or got distracted and drifted 2m wide.

I saw it too. I seldom do 20 on that route though, unless at a traffic light.

Could have been anything from a heart attack to an Asian at the wheel.

Yes! you are quite right. I actually take that turn every day going home haha. The times I am on Great Eastern Street the traffic is always solid so I can rarely get any speed going. Just talked to my brother who was there early hours this morning and said it was there then so must have been an early morning speeder.

Hardly a sharp turn either way!

Yeah, just as you come off it going to Great Eastern Street. Police had completely shut it off when I was there so had to take the left and cut down Christina street back on to GES.

Does anybody ever take Great eastern street and turn into one of the side streets on the right? I have to go into Phipp Street and its horrific waiting to turn in!

I can go around the back streets but Phipp Street is a one way so there's not much option for me other than to turn right on to it from G/E/S sadly. Keep my bike in a private residential entrance on 24/7 camera so rather take the horrible turn-in than leave it at one of the bike bays on Curtain road!

Brother is usually down that area at 6am so I would say around then but not 100% sure

My route is Old Street to Old Street both ways.

Going east (the direction the photo is pointed at), depending on the phasing of the traffic lights, you can come off Old Street roundabout with some pace, go down the central lane or right hand lane, and merge into the slip lane for Old Street at the last moment. If you take the bus lane all the way down, you risk being merged into by cars - it's not as good unless it's all clogged up and there are no buses at the stops. Also, pedestrians running between cars to catch a bus.

Going west, you're normally caught at the lights just beside the island the car crashed into. And the rest of Old Street up to the roundabout can sometimes be clear, sometimes not, depending on the traffic beyond the roundabout - you can often make great pace along that bit, and have fun swinging around the bend on the roundabout, provided the light timing is good. That bend is one of my favourites on my route, when you catch it at the right time.

They were already putting a new traffic light in place on my way home.

Went for a sneaky nandos after work down commercial road and left from work at 10 tonight and I agree with no traffic it is one fun road. Tonnes of plod about tonight though so I was in my best behaviour. New light in place so back to normal in the morning! For some unknown reason Friday traffic is always awesome going into London!
