New to biking and unsure what bike to get?

Hello!
I'm currently new to biking just holding my CBT, and I'm in search of a good bike. I've looked at so many but I'm on a tight budget of £1300 at maximum. I'm looking for one that's a sporty look but also a chunky feel as I don't like the too skinny bikes.
Could anyone offer advice or what they recommend?

Even if anyone's selling a good bike!
Particularly interested in the rs125, cbr125 but also the hyosung gt125r but they're so rare, same with the sachs 125.

Should be able to get a tidy NSR125 for that budget, should be able to sell it on for about the same when it's time to upgrade, too.

If you haven't already, I would strongly advise going to a dealer and just sitting on a few bikes to see what feels right to you.

I'm just under six foot and found the cbr and yzf to be hideously small for me!

You're applying the wrong criteria here.
sod what a bike looks like
nothing looks good with L-Plates, anyway.
CONDITION IS EVERYTHING
You want to go ride the thing, not have it look pretty in your garden.... don't you?
Who cares if its a bit skinny or ugly?
That's why we have full face crash helmets.
No one takes any notice of us anyway... especially if they are in a car trying to get out of a T-Junction.
Re-Arrange priorities.
You want 'Easy' to live with. Easy to ride, Easy on your wallet.
If it happens to look 'OK' then great, if not, dont really matter that much, right here right now.
Take a second look at YBR's and the like... if the stylings not so appealing to you, concentrate on the prices and the insurance quotes for them!

I'm with roger buy what you want.

Though your choice of bikes in my opinion is mostly shit. With the exception of the 2t RS125 those 4t 125's just look "sporty" in actual fact you look like a total limp dicked twat when a pensioner on an old and crappy CB250 leaves you standing.

They are all "skinny" too excepting the Hyosung.

Given your list I'd take the RS125 at least it can live up to its look.

Hello, thanks for all the replies, some made me laugh to be honest! But I appreciate the honesty.

I've recently been offered an rs125 for £1100 in okay condition so I may take that up. But is a 2 stroke harder to live with than a 4 stroke?
I don't quite understand the whole oil thing.
As you all might be able to tell, I'm very very useless at this.

Two Strokes vs four strokes..... ah... yes.
OK well ANY bike, properly maintained ought to be reliable; just a matter of how much hassle they are to maintain.
Low tech, air-cooled two-strokes can be about the easiest engines to live with' they have basically three moving parts, you ride till they wear out and chuck-em away.
Hi-Tech two strokes? Same deal. Three moving parts, you ride till they wear out and chuck-em away! Just tends to be a rather shorter 'ride', and a little more hassle at the end.
Remember, 'motor' is only half of 'motor-bike'. they all got wheels, tyres, brakes, steering and 'stuff' that needs looking after.
sporty strokers, tend not to get so much attension in this area; owners more interested in the engine... either making it 'faster' (and even shorter lived) or making it work after it broke.
The RS125, might be in good condition compared to other RS125's, but they ALL tend to suffer at the hands of owners who rag the shit out of them and dont pay anywhere near enough attension to maintenence; then when it breaks, try fixing it on the cheap.
THAT is what makes them notoriousely unreliable and difficult to live with....
I could live with one, because I have the know how to look after it properly, the tools, space facilities etc, and the thing wouldn't have to work for a living, getting me to and from every day.
So, in all the waffle, I know what your thinking, has he fired five shots or six, and in all the exitement I kinda lost count myself, so what you have to ask yourself is 'Am I feeling lucky?'... Well ARE ya?
Odds aren't good... but would look pretty on the patio.....

If you get a 2 stroke you need to have at least an idea of what you're buying and how to look after them.

Cbr is tiny so that's out of your criteria. Rs 125 is a bit like finding a needle in a hay stack to get a good one

I'd get an nsr 125, best 125 and meets all criteria.

To be honest with most 'sport' 125 s you need to have a damn good look at them when buying, as the vast majority have had very hard unmaintained lives

If you're still looking, have you considered the Yamaha TW125 or the Suzuki Vanvan 125? They might not have the chunkiest frames, but the fat tires will give you that chunky bike feeling and the bikes themselves are relatively cheap second hand, easily under £1300 anyway!

Get a CG125 for three hundred quid & stick the grand under your bed. Ride it around 'til you pass your test, tart it up a bit then sell it for four hundred quid. You'll then have a fairly decent headstart in affording something nice.

I'm surprised no one has asked how old the OP is yet. If he is old enough A2 on DAS or A on DAS with that money. Get the big test out of the way rather than piss around on small 125 "sporty" looking bikes.

With the change left from DAS you can pick up an old favorite twin. CB500, ER5, GS600. All of which would leave any sporty 125 behind and see you to licence losing figures with ease. Even if its restricted to A2 category.
