Yea, I was just thinking your poll was a bit biased!

Interesting one tho - I'm thinking of buying a streetfighter...

I think they are pretty smart, a chance to have a bike in your own style, not just the same as everyone else.

Not for me though (neither the technical skill / time or practicallity) although a little individuality is always nice.

It's something that should be done yourself though,
A personal project in your own style.

You neither get the money back that you have paid out for your own work, let alone paying someone else to do it.

Street fighters are well nice, can you imagine how boring the world would be if everyone drove a factory standard bike?

I think that they look cool as they obviously thought about before making them. streetfighter bikes are bikes with little or no fairing, but if you take the fairings off a faired bike it looks crap. But a streetfighter is a different matter.

I think street fighters are well cool. I always feel quite intimidated if one pulls up next to me. Dunno why, but I assume if they are riding that, they must really know what they are doing. Generally I will hang back and follow them.... Confused

What a cowered! Laughing

Well built fighters are cool. But a sportsbike with flat bars just looks like a crashed bike.

A bad example

Yes, that is more what I would expect a street fighter to look like.

I assume the back is like that for the optimum wheelie!

The term 'Streetfighter' is loosely based on a magazine of the same name, the offspring of Backstreet Heroes mag. It's used to describe custom Japanese sportsbikes. There's a couple of types....

The first is the guy that's had a faired bike but crashed it. After stripping off the remainder of the fairing, adding a couple of spotlamps etc and a set of Renthals the owner believes it to be a streetfighter. Nope, afraid not matey Razz

The second is the guy who takes various parts off of other bikes, maybe hand makes some custom parts, upgrades the engine etc. Basically spends shit loads of wonga on making a unique and very personal bike. In thgis case the finish is usually to a very high standard. (okay some people do make a hash of it - agreed! Laughing )

But basically Streetfighters are cool. Cool

Hi

Personally I think most look really crap, especially ones like that orange heap above. At best it looks like someone colour blind got some Humbrol model paints and painted a bike that had been rammed up the back by a bus.

All the best

Keith

i apreciate that they are trying to make soemthing different and unique to them, this i am in favour of. but the things some people make are a little over the top i think.

Whatever floats yer boat.

So, streetfighters are bikes that are all 'modded-up' and those that aren't are 'muscle bikes'?

or

So, the 'orange heap' above is a streetfighter and something like a CB1300 is a 'muscle bike'?

Therefore:

The Z1000 would be a streetfighter looking muscle bike???

Think I may be a bit lost Shocked

In my opinion:

A streetfighter is a bike that has been modified for agressive street riding... Thus the 'street' and 'fighter' Smile.
Thus taking fairings off makes sense so that you don't waste so much plastic when you crash and wider bars to give you better leverage.
A jacled up rear end was often done to increase steering speed, though tends to be done for cosmetic reasons using the subframe.

Personally I don't see that a tarty paint job or fancy frame defines a street figher. This just makes it more of a 'custom' bike. For me when people start to sacrifice the actual bike over the looks it starts to take it away from the streetfighter ideal and place it more just as a custom bike.
Persoanlly as far as 'customs' go, I prefer streetfighters to the other styles.

Yes and yes. Kawasaki have noticed the popularity of this styling on bikes so have attempted to recreate it in a factory bike.

In a similar way, I believe Buell advertise their new bikes as 'sportsfighters'.

what is it with having the ass end so severe. It would look better if it was smoother.

That was probably the case years ago, now streetfighter is a bike that LOOKS like it has been modified for agressive street riding.

90% of streetfighters will never pull a whellie or be ridden in anger just like most cruisers will never be taken on a ride more than 200miles, or most sports bikes will never redline in top gear. Its just a image people crave.
