Anybody have their insurance with Equity Red Star?

I have been quoted £621 Fully Comp (including 3rd party on any other bike and European cover,) for my 2014 ER6F. Considering I paid £800 for 3PFT for my Duke 125 this seems ridiculously cheap.

MCE were the only cheaper company but I have read loads of bad reviews for them so if anybody is with E.R.S that would be great to know.

Thanks,

Dean

Twice I've used them, never had to claim but they were fine when changing bikes or adding to the policy.

Thanks Kwakerz, good to know they are okay with bike changes. Highways (LV) refuse to change my current policy from the Duke to the ER6F, their loss I say!

what's your excess? I was quoted in that region for a CBR600RR but with 1K excess.. that kind of got me thinking about worst case. Shocked

Yep, under WickedQuotes.

No bad comments to make. Haven't claimed from them, but have had a claim made against me.

£200 Excess which is seriously good. Just called my brother up and turns out he is with Equity Red Star and has never had any problems. He pays roughly £600 fully comp with 4 years no claims on his hornet.

Yeah I am under Wicked Quotes at the moment and they got together that price for me. Seriously great customer service Wicked Quotes have. Going to wait till 20/4/14 when I have my 1 years no claims and get that sorted. So annoying, got my money down on the ER (before 31st March so I get the 0% finance,) but a month to wait! Must...Not...Drop...Duke...

thanks Thumbs Up

Give Wicked Quotes a bell mate, they told me all the options I have and really helped me out and found that quote for me. Do you have 1 years no claims on your 125? Without 1 years NCB, 3k fully comp. With, £621... Makes such a huge difference!

WickedQuotes are on 0844 8800 962 if you need their No.

My policy on the CBR600f was underwritten by Equity Red Star.

They were dragging their feet a bit tbh.
I had a mate on the inside who fed me all the info i needed, otherwise it woulda taken a couple of weeks to get my bike released from the compound.

I guess if I have a spill you will be my number one contact Razz I guess most insurance companies are a con anyway, its just a matter of finding a company that will mug me off as little as possible.

I guess the best claim, is one where I don't have to claim at all!

Horrible company and if you ever have to deal with them, it is a nightmare. Google reviews of them to see.

The cheap prices are offset by the none existent customer service and BS small print about cancellations of policy etc.

They are a very large insurance company who underwrite a bunch of other companies insurance policies.

As such, they have a very large legal team who will do anything to get out of paying.

Equity Red Star under-write loads of policies and historically have been very cheap.

Too cheap in fact, they were caught out being over-exposed Matron.

Probably all right now though. Whistle

Did they charge you the £30 "admin fee" for changing the bikes? I have both my bikes insured with them at the moment and will likely want to change bikes at some point so was wondering if they actually did charge you.

As for original question, I'm with them this year and was last year. Haven't had any problems but then I haven't yet had to make a claim.

I can't imagine I would be saying the same thing if I had needed to claim though.

If MCE's cheaper i'd just go with them - i'm with them for the first time this year and haven't had any issues yet [although yet to make a full claim obviously].

Most insurance companies will have terrible reviews if you dig enough - not many people will bother to write good reviews so its just hit n' miss guess work which company is better or worse really, it depends on each personal case.

Excess was quite steep with MCE for me personally, but the policy price was significantly lower and it included breakdown cover [mile from home] so I went ahead with them.

I was with them when I claimed for my accident on my Fazer - got the cheque for the right off in about 10 days & white dalton did the rest.

Pretty helpful in a nondescript sort of way as was a pretty straight forward claim.

Although they did pay me more than I bought the bike for Thumbs Up

MCE's = Broker
Wicked quotes = Ramasis Insurance Services = Broker

Equity Red Star = Underwriter (actual Insurance company, who will be paying out in the event of a claim).

A broker is NOT a insurance company.

Went for her in Orange as its a bit of a rarer colour and looks beautiful in sunshine! Yeah I was shocked at the £621 but cannot knock it. Although some people have had a bad experience with them I think I will give them a go. As mentioned, nobody bothers to review when its good service, people only leave reviews if there is a cock up. When my brother was knocked off his Hornet they paid up straight away and he got a nice bit of compensation too for loss of earnings.

Equity Red Star are a Lloyds syndicate (No.218). This may not mean much to most, but essentially they are a group of wealthy people who stump up cash to belong to the syndicate and hopefully make lots more dosh.

This means they tend to try and avoid paying out where they can.

The Lloyds set up is very cosy, so the members of the syndicate will be quite close to the senior management. This is unlike the more famous companies who have many shareholders who simply see it as a business transaction not a constant cash cow.

All this means they will try and wriggle out of paying if at all possible.
