Get 'em while they're hot and wet.

Love-a-duck, they're properly up. Dance!

Peds are down, everything else is up. Geared bikes are up nearly 23% on 2013, 651-1000cc are up 1/3rd.

No surprises in the top 10. The new-new R1200GS ripped the arse out of everything else, doubtless thanks to that totally unnecessary steering damper which fixed had nothing to do with the completely non-existent head shake non-problem.

It was a good month for Kawasaki, Yamaha sold a decent number of MT-07s, and even Suzuki put in an appearance at #7, although they're still stuck just behind Harley. I hope they have their earplugs in.

Fun times, more new bikes means more used bikes.

Nice weather started early this year... My bet is that explains it all...

That, and new bikes. The twatsuiteratti will queue to up buy every new GS that comes out, Yamaha has thrown down the gauntlet with the MT-07, the new Z1000 SX sold well, and I expect Suzuki's numbers were bolstered by both of the V-Strom 1000's buyers.

Is the Inazuma 250 selling at all? Not going to appeal to everyone here, naturally, but the dearth of machines in that kind of displacement/power/price range would have made me think Suzuki would do alright with that one.

It did top the 126-649cc one month chart last year so there is a market for it.

The MT07 might have an effect on second hand prices generally. If all manufacturers have to discount new to compete with the MT, then second hand prices should fall a touch too.

Then again, if there is an increase in demand due to either spare cash, or not enough cash and/or a perception that we are getting longer / dryer springs/summer. Then this will offset somewhat.

More pseudo-science BS Smile

Either situation is a win hopefully.

Good job. Suzuki apparently needs those sales! Be sure to tell us what it’s like.

I periodically glance at the Inazuma. I think Suzuki did a lot right with it: it looks strong and contemporary, it’s comfy, it has plenty of mod cons, and there is nothing similar to it on the market (for a strict definition of similar).

My niggling doubts about it are the weight, fuel economy, and price – all of which seem just a fraction out. (Though the price would be good if it weighed 20 kg less and did 100 MPG.)

It’s surprising how often the European manufacturers like BMW and KTM lead on fuel economy and weight these days. No wonder they’re the ones generally gaining market share.

But perhaps Suzuki should do more unique bikes like the Inazuma, and purge the many also-rans from its catalogue. The brand has a slight image problem, and that’s one way to fix an image problem.

Well for the last five years I have been riding a Honda Deauville which Is a good bike but incredibly heavy, traded it in for the Inazuma as I think it will better fit my needs and will be a lot easier to manage.

Still running the engine in at the moment and I have only ridden it from the Dealership to my mums and then home again about 90 miles so can’t comment on MPG yet but it corners a lot easier than the Deauville and much easier to park. I do like the twin exhausts and the B-King like indicators though.

So far so good!

BMW and KTM lead on fuel economy, with Honda only getting close with their half Jazz engine.

However BMW is just as bad as all the Japanese firms in terms of adding weight to their bikes. Yahama have done well with the MT07, but cocked up massively with the Tenere XT660Z which weighs over 200kg. For a 45bhp single cylinder adventure bike, that's a massive fail.

The only company that seems to care to about weight is KTM.

Dat. I had a look at a BMW G650 XCountry recently. At first glance I assumed it was a G650GS Sertao, but no, while it looks superficially similar, it's about 45kg lighter, and with a few more horses to boot, as the owner was keen to point out.

How BMW managed to add so much weight in the GS models that replaced it baffles me, unless the GS and Sertao badges are made of depleted uranium.

All the x-bikes are light. Not quite KTM levels, but they get better fuel economy. Shame they only made them for couple of years. I'm actually after one myself.

They’re light, but not quite 45 kg lighter. A quick Google says the G 650 GS weighs 175 kg dry compared to 148 kg for the Xcountry (wet weights are a bit more different since the Xcountry has a tiny 9.5-litre tank). The screen and fuel gauge on the current bike must be very solid things.

I had the impression the BMWs were still a bit lighter than the Japanese equivalents, generally speaking – but that’s enough Googling for me right now, so I’ll concede I might be wrong.

For fuel economy the BMWs are clearly strong, even the air-cooled ones with lower compression ratios which presumably run a bit richer from time to time.

Edit: Still, the staggering and ongoing sales success of the R 1200 GS is hard for me to fathom, and I don’t even mean that as a criticism of the bike.
