Hello!

This is my first post here... I'm Dges, French, (I have a EU License) just arrived 1 month ago in Newcastle!
I'm working in video games, and I'll stay till october in Newcastle, then I'll go back to France. So I'm here only for 7 months!

I planned to by an harley davidson 48, I really love that bike. Before I had a Ducati monster, but I want now something calm, not to go fast.

I saw the bike, and was ready to buy it! But I called many (many many many) insurance company, and all of them told me that they don't insurance non-resident UK...!!

How is that possible ? How I can do to ride a bike here ??

For now, the only solution to me is to go back in France, buy my bike there and coming back to newcastle with french registration..... But I really don't want to do that...

If some people have any idea how I can get an insurance here without being resident ?

Thanks! Very Happy

For the purposes of insurance, surely you will be a UK resident? As you will be residing here when you insure the bike?

Wouldn't bother telling them you only want insurance for 7 months.

What are you going to do with the UK reg bike when you move back? Seems to me you'd be better off buying one in France and insuring it there to live here. You only have to pop across the tunnel once or twice if it works the same as here.

You are a UK resident as unless you are living and working here, unless you're commuting from France. lol.

Don't even bother calling, just do it all online. As an EU national with a UK address (you've got be staying somewhere right?) you shouldn't have any problems.

The major brokers and others are listed below.

Thanks for your answer,

But when I said to some brokers I was resident, they told me you are resident less than one year, we cannot give you an insurance.

Online, some don't check, but I have a claim to do later, they will find out and they will never do anything...

How would they know you're only resident for 7 months unless you tell them?

As an EU citizen you could be here for longer, they don't need to know, simply buy the insurance and then cancel it when you're leaving

Some companies will charge an admin fee for cancelling so worth reading the terms and conditions of the policy

Find out what? you're a resident at the moment, if the question isn't asked on an online quote then you don't have to tell them how long you've been here
I'd seriously consider getting your bike in France though and using it here on French plates, it can be a right pain to get a bike imported and registered in France if it was bought here,

I'm sure most insurance companies ask how long you have already been a resident of the UK, giving OP his problem.

I currently reside outside of the UK but, I could be moving back to the UK in the very near future. My insurance company don't need to know this. All they need to know is where I currently reside and that's what my insurance covers. When the time comes and I no longer reside at my current location, only then do they need to know.

So just take one years insurance policy out as a uk resident and cancel it, when and if you move on. Thumbs Up
