Love camping up beside the water, was thinking about compact fishing kit to pass some time and maybe something tasty for the pan.

When looking for really compact fishing kit, I see stuff like this
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/310652256491?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=108&device=c&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=108

Appreciate any recommendations you might have, I've never tried any of the ultra compact rods or reels, are they any good?

I'm not after big fish, a 1lb trout would be in the heavenly scale for me.

For that money I expect the reel will be abysmal, the rod passable. I would be tempted to bin the reel and get something a bit more reliable, I just got a Mitchell 300 from ebay for a tenner. Thumbs Up

I've found the fish don't give a toss how much you've spent on gear Smile

I take a telescopic carbon rod, a small but tidy reel and a few bits and pieces (floats, weights, hooks, disgorger etc) in a small plastic box when I go camping. Weighs little, takes hardly any space. Buy or dig bait as you go.

This ^ + 1 .

Don't buy a mickey mouse "kit" , go to a decent tackle shop and spend a few pennies .

Thumbs Up to the points made, but is there any rod\reel setup that is really tiny and fairly dependable?

I wouldn't expect the reel to be fit for spinning, just dependable to reel in little fishy on float or ledger tackle.

£30.00 budget, can you get something tiny and good for that ?

These would work for a few trips. Big fish and/or salt water and watch it all fall apart in front of your eyes. Just the same as a cheap Chinese motorcycle will work...for a while.

True.

Taken with a pinch of salt, as my remark was intended.

Depends how seriously you are with the hobby/sport. Cheap hooks may snap or straighten. Cheap reels give up when a big fish is hooked..if that wouldn't bother you then use which ever.
I have an £18 telescopic rod for holidays. Used probably a dozen times and now falling apart due to salt corrosion. Dead handy though for just a few hours with out taking too much gear.
