Hi

It is using the engine from their off road bike, which is a small V twin. Originally 450cc there are now rumours it has been stretched to 550cc.

Personally I am not sure it will do well. It will cost them little to get that engine into the RS250 frame, but I think they will just land up with something that weighs the same as a sports 600 with about the same power as the RS250.

All the best

Keith

It's a RSV450. So a four stroke 450 v-twin.

I believe the idea is that it has almost the power of a 600 and the weight of a 250. I suspect that the reality may not be quite so good.
However, I don't think there's really been a new 250 or 400 sports engine in over 4 years, so there's definite possibilities there.

The engine I believe is doing well in their current motorcross bike.

Personally, I'll stick with my rs250... they can be achieved to give decent power if wanted and I doubt they'll get the 4 stroke quite as light.

Modern stling, small 4 stroke which handles is a winner in my book!

There is not way a 450 or even 550cc twin will make anything like 90hp of a bottom of the pile 600, and I would suspect that 70hp would be pushing it. Weight wise a V twin is likely to be reasonably heavy (seperate castings for each barrel, so extra metal required to duplicate strength in each barrel, 2 cam chains required along with tensioners, etc), so I doubt it will weigh any less than a 600 sports bike.

All the best

Keith

I think that the idea was to make a modern day RS250, powerful and light.

a 450 twin would make around RS250 power, but i think they hope as it is a V twin rather than a screaming 2 stroke that the power will me more usable.due to the low and mid range power which 2 strokes are very lacking in.

I think the bike would certainly show up the 2 strokes, but cmpetling with the other 4 strokes would be the problem. weight could be reduced at the sacrifice of comfort and build quality and power increased with tuning. but then you basically end up with a road legal trackbike which isnt suitable for most.

I think a modern sports 400 would be a good idea, but i dont think it would compete with the 600's and 750's.

It could be a two stroke as aprilia have been working on a 500cc version of there 50cc di-tech fuel injected two stroke. It would be nice. Very Happy

Dunno about ditching the project Benny but don't any of you read the news?

Aprillia are currently in trouble, big time.

Try to get a new bike at the moment. Try to get parts for your existing bike. Not a hope. NOTHING is getting sent out of Italy, and so far the dealers have not been given any date when this is likely to change.

I would think they need to sort out their current problems (possibly being bought out by soeone else and traded as a brand rather than a make in their own right, I have heard that Ducati are interested) before they even think about introducing new models.

Yes but having development ideas and a future plan for the brand are big bonuses for when it comes to getting the company out of the shit. just look at MV, they are in trouble but the bringing out of what was a newer version of what was untill now not a great bike seriously has to potential to turn their fortunes around due to the potential of the 1000F4

There is a great deal of need for a small size and capacity 4 stroke bike to cater for those tired of the aging 400's and who dont want a 2 stroke.

If that's the case then I really hope it happens.

However, my other half can still not get a date out of them for delivery of standard service/warranty parts, and his boss (who owns the dealership) only has 3 Aprillias left in the shop even though he is an authorised dealer, 15 on order, no delivery dates in sight...........

Sh*t, I just bought a Tuono!
Mind you it's Summer in Italy and all the factories shut down...
I'd heard that the finacial problems were sorted out now.
