For the sake of argument, assume some idiot fell off their bike in a way that is even more embarrassing than filming yourself eating ice cream on it*.
Apart from the obvious few scuffs everything else looks and feels fine, nothing broken, and there were no problems riding it home. But the instrument panel is now angled to the left, somewhat exactly like:

Is that easy to fix, or does it need to be properly serviced? It is not loose and pushing does nothing, so I do not know if something is actual bent that needs replacing or whether it is simply a bolt that needs loosening to twist it back.
Thanks.
* Such as braking too hard on an empty road to avoid a box junction that could have obviously been crossed. |

I would loosen off the 2 nuts (if you can get at them) that hold the cluster in place. When I removed mine on my standard YBR I had to disconnect all the wiring behind the headlight, though if you're just inspecting it, the only thing you should need to disconnect is the speedo cable (which just screws out - pull down the rubber sleeve). If the bracket is bent carefully try to straighten it, you may be able to get a replacement as I know the bracket (if I remember correctly it's a single piece of metal) does separate from the cluster when you take the back off, though you could always source a broken instrument cluster with an intact bracket if needed. Hope this helps! ____________________ Current Bike: 2008 Yamaha YBR 125 |

Finally got the chance to buy a ring spanner to get at the left nut, and turns out I did not need it. After taking out the right one it was pretty pliable and I was able to twist it back into some sort of shape.
Giving it a bit of a clean at the same time though I noticed the bezel on the speedo is no longer flush, I think some plastic clips inside may have snapped. It does not feel loose so it is fine for now but will probably be best to replace the whole panel at some point.

As my first tinkering with a bike I was a bit nervous of making things worse, so even though it was only twisting a bit of metal in the end thanks again for the help. |

No worries, great news! It is more difficult to get at the actual inside of the speedo, the back comes off, and you can change the bulbs and wiring but the actual needle section is hard to get at. Hope it lasts, good job! ____________________ Current Bike: 2008 Yamaha YBR 125 |
