Yep.

Kinda attached to a swing arm with a fancy cush drive rear wheel.
And 'proper' shiver forks etc. Embarassed

Check for play on the sprocket on the cush drive rear wheels, I went to buy a set for my 140 as I want to have a go at this sm racing, the wheels where apparently only a couple of months old and the studs for the sprocket had ovalled out the alloy hub and the centre bearing had also worn the hub to the point it just fell out when removed.

this may just be a one off but it put me off that style of wheels. pretty sure they where a set of these:

Appreciated!

Closest track I can find to me is 100 miles away still. One near York say they are considering allowing pit bikes but the noise ramifications need some thought.

They do look similar at least - I'll keep an eye on them, ta.
Bike came from someone happy to chuck cash/time at it, so hopefully will be ok.

I too could also have a set of 10' wheels with those tyres on for sale, but Garth got there first and I probably want more as I never even used them myself after buying them Sad.

I was planning on going with 12's everyone I've spoken to seems to swear by them with the exception of use on inside tracks.

OK, I'm convinced. I don't really like off-roading on my pitbike, especially when I have my two 250's. But it does have 12" supermoto wheels on it...

I've been looking at regulations, and I'm not sure whether mine would fit into the stock 140 class or not. I'm not 100% sure what mods have been done to it. I know it has a different carb, different exhaust, different suspension, a Z40 cam and I think thinner gaskets in the engine and a high compression piston and a lightened flywheel/stator, which I think might push it into the open class? Thinking

So essentially, I just need some handguards, peg sliders, axle sliders (F&R) and then lockwire the sump and filler plug and fit a catch can? Then figure out which class I'd fall into.

I'll need leathers, which I was thinking about buying some anyway. Am I allowed an MX lid? I have never owned a road bike helmet...

I also don't know how to feed the catch can/where to mount one if I did. Any pictures of racebikes to explain how to build them up would be good, thanks.

If you're late to enter, the 140 class normally fills up first anyway I think - I entered 160 and open on my stock 140 because that class was full.

Pace isn't massively different I don't think.

I've just taken a chunk out of my head and added a load of grazing to the side, so probably no helmets for me for a while Sad.

Nice work, G. That sounds horrendous. I'm not really too bothered because my passive nature and complete noobishnessnessness will leave me near/at the back of any class anyway.

I bought my pit bike on the 24th of July last year, because it was my birthday and I had just been told how much I was getting paid for my first pay-cheque. It only needed a horn bolting on, a full size plate and to replace the rear master cylinder and it was good to go for MOT, which I've done. I still haven't booked it in for an MOT, and I have only took it off-road once. That's just about the only time I've rode it so far. I'm thinking about getting it MOT'd first to see if I even like riding it.

Turning it into a race bike will be the only way to justify buying it now. I have no idea where to get insurance though, because even google search only throws up one picture of whatever the name on the log-book says. I don't know who'll insure it. Embarassed

Change the shock before the forks, cheaper and a bigger improvement

Yep that's the plan the rear shock is obviously shite, the forks seem better but not brilliant.

think I'm gonna go for a DNM MT-RC for 130 quid and probably later get a set of stomp SP forks for about 170 quid.

the bike was 400 but looks like I'm going to spend double that on it to get it up to scratch lol

Mine was made road legal by buying a VIN plate and logbook from a cheapo pit bike. Mine will cost about 50 quid to prep, I think. It's already got upgraded suspension front and rear Thumbs Up Actually, it may cost a bit more if the tyres aren't up to scratch for track. Got its MOT on Saturday Shocked see if it gets a daytime only MOT.

I think I'm serious about this adventure, I've always thought supermoto was my favourite racing, especially proper SM with jumps and gravel. This is just a cheap taster.

There is one club that runs the pit bikes on a 'proper' supermoto track.

But so far my experience is that it's closer to normal track-riding scaled down than actual SM.

Ok, I haven't actually ridden an SM on track properly, but have owned a few and ridden them off road too.

Would like to give full-size SM racing a go too, but pit bikes are cheaper generally.

On the main one I've ridden - SP forks, DNM shock with 1000lb spring.
Soft. Needs 1200lb spring, it seems.
Brakes a bit soft too, but passable.

I have no idea! It seems quite good though. The brakes seem quite good too. I took it for a quick spin round the block, stoppied from about 10-15mph, never had a bike do that before. Laughing I'm getting it ready for MOT, it wad pouring fuel out the overflow, my guess was gummed up float, seeing as the fuel was stale four months ago when it was last started Embarassed I think I was right, a qquick clean and a splash of fresh stuff donated by my CRM sorted it. I must remember to fill the Jerry can on the way home tommorow

From what my mate told me, he spent over 1600 on the bike on bits. From what I can gather that's a fortune in the pit bike world, it seems like a lot on a bike he just used to mess about on.

The pitter failed it's MOT today. No baffle in the exhaust pipe, excessive play in the headset bearings and the number plate is facing too high. Sad Thumbs Down

On the plus side, I sorted out the leaking carb last night when I gave it a quick once over to get it ready, but I tweaked the float height too much, so at constant revs it feels like it's being starved of fuel. I enjoyed riding it the 15 miles to the test centre, despite the rain. I managed to get a slide on at one point slamming it from 4th to 2nd, and the tiny wheels didn't take too long to get used to. It just feels like a powerful moped to ride.

I was impressed how it just flew up the gearbox, I'm not sure what it's top speed is, I'd guess about 65-70, I overtook a van down a massive straight! Thumbs Up The vibrations are just like the cubs, you can tell the engine is based on the cub, it even sounds the same, not exhaust tone, but engine noise. I think I will turn it into a track toy! Twisted Evil
