hi, iv had my zx6r j2 for a about 6 months now previously it was owned by a a local bike shop so is pretty good all round. In their ownership of about 7 years it had a bottom end rebuild think it was just the shels that were replaced.

any way thats all history i have on the bike but iv got a little issue which is more noticable when engine is cold and on fast idle when im warming her up. there a very distinctive rattle that to me from a quick listen seems to come from the top end which sound alot like the cam chain rattling.

i had this on my sv650 which could be cured by an oil change or the tensioners been stripped and cleaned then it was silent for a few thousand miles.

im thinking maybe this could be the same but id like to diagnose it properly as i plan on keeping it a few years.

Is the tensioner and auto or manual unit ?
what checks can i do to see if the cam chain is just worn as the milage is about 33k and i know its been a hard 33k.

Remove the tensioner and reset it, should take about 30mins all in.
