From A1 to A license, age > 24

Hi,

I have a A1 license since 1997 and I want to pass the A license.
My understanding is that I don't have to pass the CBT.
But what about the theory test? Do I need to pass it? I found contradictory information about it .

Essentially, we don't know yet. On the face of the new DSA rules, there's only an "upgrade" route from new A2 to new A, and the online booking system asks for a theory pass number before letting you book anything.

However, that would be bonkers. There's a very small chance that there's someone in the DSA who possesses an ounce of common sense, so I'd suggest that you get in touch with them and see if you can find that person.

I can give an update as I got my license.

- I did not have to pass the CBT
- I did not have to pass the theory test
- No problems with the examiners

The only issue I got was when I tried to book the modules tests online, as I was asked to give a theory test number but did not have one. My training school booked the tests for me.

How did you get it without having a valid theory test?

I had a A1 license (I passed a theory test at the time). When upgrading to a "higher" license in the same category, full A license in my case, it is not required to pass the theory test again.

Does that mean someone who obtained an A(M) moped licence by means of a test is also exempt from requiring a theory if they 'upgrade'?

It's not on the government's flow chart, but as this thread shows that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

Slightly related, booking via the Training Skool, like myself they have access to the government gateway system. I can book tests then add a person to it later, just the DL gets checked so if a valid theory or theory not required is present it'll go ahead a book a test, simples!
