Thumbs Up

Kevlar Jeans for under £30 are worth a look but that paddock stand looks like it's made of cheese and Meccano!

Last year's fallen apart?

Mine have been through 2 winters (counting this one) and one off.
Still fine to me.
Rubbing a little now on the right heal when walking off the bike. Needed insoles to fit right but both those true of many boots including those costing way more.
I just wear thick socks.

I think i have odd feet/habbits, right boot is fine, left the sole is coming off from being squished sideways too much/often

may just have a smaller left foot than right causing it to be looser and move more when I stop.

very comfy boots though and worth replacing at such a cheap price

something with similar output is around £100 more at machinemart, but do they last?

There's a 3 year guarantee on most stuff they sell. That's not to say you'll be using it, it just shows they must have some confidence in their products!

I'm going to have a nosey at the kevlar jeans, see how much kevlar is actually in them, then compare to similarly priced pairs on fleabay. Thumbs Up

Done best part of 20,000 miles in mine - held up pretty well. No holes in them, zips still good, soles still fine. Looking a bit 'weathered' though. Soles aren't hugely heat resistant though - melted them at the bcf bbq (fire pit high jinx) and on the exhaust of my bike, groping around for side stand. And they're not absolutely utterly fantastically waterproof either. But for thirty squid they're pretty damn good. Dead comfy, warm and not bad for walking in either. Wouldn't mind some sidi couriers though - but keep thinking they're not worth eight times the price of the aldi boots, so I never quite end up pulling the trigger. Also, they don't feel as comfy when I tried some on.

Any opinions on the helmets?

Some prick dropped mine at work on Monday and broke the visor mounts Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad
Worst bit is they didn't even tell me, I found out after the visor started flapping about at 60mph on the way home!

If they're the same as last years then there are Kevlar patches and knee pads

Happy enough with mine, did initially tell the wife it was for when doing shorter trips near home

Then started wearing them to blast round the M60 to and from work

I'm interested in the boots and the helmet but not sure I can entrust my crust to a 30 quid lid.

I know there's a million 'what's the best helmet' threads and I'm sure if I have to test them for real I would be saying I should have paid more/less but can the 30 quidder protect you just as much as the 300 quidder.

I don't take to the 'well it's ok as a spare/short journey/occasional helmet argument as Sod's law says that's when you would come to need it.

It's rated to uk spec so no reason why it shouldn't protect you like all the other ones. What do you lot reckon, have you has cheap helmets? Do they work well in and impact or did you drop em on the bed and they disintegrated?

Yes. I've seen some fairly compelling research that cheap lids with thermoplastic shells actually protect marginally better than fancy composites in survivable impacts.

Gavbriggs wrote:

They're meant to disintegrate. That's how they protect you, and why the cheaper ones may do it even better than the technobabble versions.

Money buys comfort, features and lightness, not protection. Have a look over at https://sharp.direct.gov.uk/ - you'll find 2 star Arais and 5 star Lazers. The £30 Viper RS-33 is a 4 star lid.

thats my aldi trousers & jacket 1 year old now , the trousers are still dry in any weather .

the jacket will let in a wee bit near the bottom of the zip after 30 mins of hardcore rain .

some of the velcro is hanging of the jacket & trousers , over all i'd say they were good value for money .

the only fault with the trousers is they could of done with being a few inches longer .

and if you have a bike that has a tubular swing arm with the exhaust mounted next to said swing arm, your bike will fall over and smash the wheels of the paddock stand...apparently

I've got a £30 quid lid, Box BX-2 from the gem of the south west that is Trago Mills.

Sprayed it black to cover ghey graphics, dropped however many times, covered in battle scars. I'm pretty sure at this stage all it is doing is fulfilling the legal requirement for a lid, as opposed to any protective features.

That said, I take the opinion the lids main purpose is to stop my beautiful face being abraded away by the tarmac. Even my battered-ass lid should do that job reasonably well.

It's the brand name label on the same gear from the same Chinese sweatshop that really protects you. Folded arms

And they were dressed in Italy's finest Alpinestar and Dainese.

I'm a label tart.

For commuting , they are just as good and work.
