Been a while since I've been on here but I've bought another little project. It's an import, French or Swiss, I meant to just get it running & blast around on it during the summer but I couldn't source a spark plug locally so decided to strip it. It has been bodged to buggery & a lot of the fittings are missing but the engine is in good nick & still pumps out over 100psi compression. Will update the thread as I go. Thumbs Up

That was how it looked when I picked it up. But when I couldn't get a plug for it I decided to just strip it.

I've already ordered another headlamp as the hockey mask monstrosity has to go. Ordered quite a lot of parts already I'll hopefully have it done for the summer.

Nice project, and so is AF1 project too!

Ben what happened to that nice white one you built up? Did you ever get the RG150 top end fitted and working on it?

Good luck with this one, there's very few RG125F's around now, much more rare than NSR's or TZR's as is the TS125R compared to rivals.

I sold that a long time ago mate, I think the lad who bought it still has it. I'm going to do a similar thing with this one just a different main colour on the tank & panels. Hopefully this one will be done quicker as I'd like to use it over the summer.

Got some more stripping done today only to find the forks are actually bent! Rolling Eyes

I don't know if it shows in this photo.

https://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g308/bennyboy73/ac04924d-d245-45b2-9635-9eeffb773fbc.jpg

Also found out why the bike was being run on pre-mix.

https://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g308/bennyboy73/IMGP1716.jpg

All for the sake of a cable that costs 12 quid Rolling Eyes .

I ordered an SV650 rear shock which turned up during the week & with the help of some cheap spring compressors I took it apart for blasting & paint.

https://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g308/bennyboy73/IMGP1714.jpg

Bucket 'o bits. Laughing

How do you mean you couldn't get a plug for it? Oh and RGV 250 barrel fits them as do the power valves ! Slightly higher state of tune on the 250 top end as twice the cc makes setting off from the line a bit easier! Check them power valves for wear or cracking or your in for ££££ rebuild costs but if you look after them and if needed change the pin and make sure they are adjusted correctly then damn good little bike.........shame you can't buy a 125 that does 90 mph+ anymore .....oh and the 125 had straight plug heads and power valve breather that was a race kit add on for the rgv250 so well sought after by those that race 250 2t class!

Hi all a small update. I've dropped the frame, fork legs & all the smalls off to be shot blasted & powder coated & I've been collecting parts:

https://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g308/bennyboy73/IMGP1718.jpg

Also bought myself one of these:

https://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g308/bennyboy73/IMGP1719.jpg

23 quid delivered from eBay. Thumbs Up It'll do for working on the engine. Speaking of which whilst I'm waiting for the frame & assorted parts to be done I thought I'd crack on with it.

https://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g308/bennyboy73/IMGP1720.jpg

I took the head off & everything looked good:

https://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g308/bennyboy73/IMGP1722.jpg
https://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g308/bennyboy73/IMGP1723.jpg

Then when I actually got the barrel off the truth emerged:

https://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g308/bennyboy73/IMGP1724.jpg

As you can see the piston is totally screwed. Thumbs Down This in turn has knackered the barrel. It looks as though rather than replacing with a new piston kit a previous owner has just replaced the rings. Rolling Eyes

https://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g308/bennyboy73/IMGP1725.jpg

Still there is some good news there's no vertical movement on the con-rod & the big end bearings look in really good condition & no swarf. The powervalves are intact & move freely. I'll get the barrel & head off to PJME next week. Thumbs Up

Ok so progress is slow at the moment but here's a few pics.

I finally got around to painting the rear shock.

https://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g308/bennyboy73/IMGP1729.jpg

I was going to do the bottom mount black but I already had some chrome effect spray lying around so went with that.

Put it back together so it now look like this.

https://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g308/bennyboy73/IMGP1732.jpg

Ordered a few more parts, 37 quid for this little lot! Shocked

https://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g308/bennyboy73/IMGP1734.jpg

Some pics of the barrel post re-plate.

My old bike (the white one) is now on eBay -> eBay ad I'm glad it still looks in fine fettle although not white anymore. I'm a bit dubious of the amount of "work" he's done on it as all that's changed is the bellypan is missing it's been resprayed & stainless steel hoses fitted. Rolling Eyes It's way over priced as well.

Hey, it's nice to see your old white one is still around! Thumbs Up

I wonder why it was re-sprayed again though? It does look pretty nice still and as you say they are pretty rare now. You don't see many of the fully faired versions now either.

BTW what is that round hole in the side of the cylinder barrel for? It looks like a core plug?

Hope your new project is still going well too mate!

Agreed! You've done a really nice job with that! Cool

Where did you get your spring compressors from?

Only really cheap ones I've seen are for car coil springs and will be too big for mine

Err.......think I'll stick with the plan lol. Wink TBH if you zoom in on some of the photo's he's posted you can see whoever did the paint job has masked the decals & the tank pad up & sprayed around them you can see white bits. Laughing I spent a lot of time & put a lot of effort into that. Confused They've also fitted the end can wrong. He/she's dreaming if the think they'll get 1800 quid for it.

The barrels are the same as the RGV250 ones just on the RGV that hole has an outlet attached to it for the water hose on the 125 it's blanked off.

Ok so some more progress on the bike. I've repaired the panels, although a little more work is needed.

https://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g308/bennyboy73/IMGP1738.jpg
https://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g308/bennyboy73/IMGP1739.jpg
https://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g308/bennyboy73/IMGP1740.jpg

After ordering another small end bearing (genuine suzuki one) the engine is now back together & in the frame (yes I know my lounge looks like a pig sty).

https://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g308/bennyboy73/IMGP1744.jpg
https://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g308/bennyboy73/IMGP1749.jpg

Along with the rear shock, linkages & swingarm.

https://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g308/bennyboy73/IMGP1750.jpg

I've also fitted the yolks (with new bearings), clip-ons, master cylinder, ignition barrel & levers. Next I turned my attention to the rear disc.

Etching primer:

Filler primer:
https://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g308/bennyboy73/IMGP1748.jpg
A good flat down then paint:
https://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g308/bennyboy73/IMGP1751.jpg
& lastly a couple of coats of lacquer:
https://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g308/bennyboy73/IMGP1752.jpg

I've also made another hugger which I immediately set about cutting up, photos to follow.
