So, I did think twice about posting this - being so new to the forum... but then I thought, sod it - it'll probably give everyone all they need to know about what level of rider I am at the moment... haha.

Anyway the story goes something like this; I'm in the middle of making a vlog and find myself at a nice little beach. I stop for an ice-cream and put my helmet next to me on a bollard. I realised the camera is still on and think to myself 'I'll edge forward to get a nice little shot of me eating my ice cream in the sun.'

Like the idiot I am, as I move forward - I accidentally flip the stand up... you can guess the rest.

5:47 if you can't be bothered to watch the whole thing Smile

That's unforgivable. It's a crime against biking. It's clumsy and stupid.

No, I'm not talking about your drop! I'm talking about Vlogging in general. Don't worry about dropping the bike. Everone has done it. It probably won't be the last time you do it either.

Anyway, back to my original point. Is there any phrase more depressing than "motovlogger"?

People don't want to see videos of people getting angry because a car cut them up or because a cyclist ran a red light. People would rather watch videos of stunts or something that other people can't do on bikes IMO. Obviously this is just a personal opinion, but I think it's fairly widely held on this forum.

Anyway, now I've done destroying your ego and self esteem... Welcome to the forum! Thumbs Up Smile

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

You didn't drop your bike by riding it. You didn't even drop your bike by having it hit into by another vehicle. You dropped it whilst eating an ice cream.

An ice cream.

AN ICE CREAM.

Doh!

Hahaha serves you right chump. Vlogging is sad as Fuck, the fact it's called Vlogging is annoying too. Just says to me you don't actually enjoy riding otherwise that's what you'd be doing, not driving around moaning at cagers.

And how more "in the shot" could you possibly want to be, your directly in the middle of the shot.

I had the sound down so I didnt hear any Vlogging but the drop. Silly. Everyone knows you should eat the ice cream before moving your motorcycle. The combination of cone and grip is a bad combo.

Ahh now I feel all warm and fluffy inside.

Actually, I started recording my rides because I wanted to document my learning process... going from CBT, through Mods 1 & 2 and on to learning how to handle a bigger bike. I actually thought it might be useful for people who might be holding off going through the process themselves. That's what my videos are about.

I guess, I thought - maybe if people can sit and watch a load of videos of me learning and making a few mistakes along the way, then it'll be a constructive process.

I'd like to think that's not too depressing a concept - I think some people are put off riding because they're daunted by the process of learning, or scared of the road, or think they won't be welcomed into the community of bikers.. I've found the opposite - so I wanted to put that across.

Anyway, luckily - the response has been pretty decent and some people are taking it how it was attended. But yeah, there's the odd rant about cyclists and drivers cutting me up - it's all part of riding, isn't it? Aren't the forums littered with threads on those topics?

Take your point that it's not everyone's cup of tea though. If the views dry up I'll build a big ramp on top of a cliff and do everyone a favour Laughing

I know. I don't need to get 'dick' tattooed on my forehead now. I'll just wear a t-shirt with a link to this video.

Well, you can't see how far in shot you are by looking at the camera, I felt a bit off-centre. Either way "making video blogs on motorcycles to post on YouTube" (to use a catchier term) as I explained, was supposed to be fairly constructive. And in this case, a good old-fashioned laugh at some rookies expense. Sorry you find it so abhorrent! Embarassed

I'm sure that the karma gods have a fair amount of payback for me daring to press record and assume people won't instantly take a disliking to me.

It does, however - illustrate quite nicely how easily you can damage your bike and potentially hurt yourself if you're not concentrating. If I was learning to ride, I'd find that a fairly useful lesson to watch.

But yes, I'm a dick for the ice-cream. I'm a dick for the camera. I accept that. Smile

It's a quirk of BCF. We've had wave after wave of self-aggrandising 'vloggers' (hideous term) trying to use our userbase to increase their viewing numbers, without realising what a complete shower of feculent nobs they really are.

The sad thing in all this is that you started out so well; you made the perfect 'hi, this is me' intro thread, you seemed to fit in, then your deviant recording habits are exposed. I suppose the next thread you start will be the one that outs you as a furry, now.

Its times like this I wish Youtube had a fast forward button.

That video would be a total "Nil points" event apart from the fact that you dusted the icecream off and continued to eat it.

So you get +1 hellkat-point for eating food with dirt on it Laughing

But your video is of you riding and talking, not instructional or informative in any manner? People will learn by riding a bike, not by watching you ride a bike.

Vlog if you want to, it's your choice, and there are people that enjoy it, but I can assure you that those people are not on this forum Laughing

I think the success of v-logging comes down to having an amusing voice and a sharp bit of wit/delivery. It's not so much what is said but how it's said. A bit like some comedians who can say anything about anything and make it funny (Sean Locke for one, in my wholly subjective opinion).

Which is why my Drift is now collecting dust. Crying or Very sad

Maybe it's just me but I found that vlog quite funny. I was laughing along in my office.

We've all done it - what's worse is when you have a disk lock on and you forget and try and ride off.. you're brain gets very confused and then suddenly remembers as you fall over sideways and faceplant the floor.

BTW is the bike on top of you as you're picking the bike up? It looked like you were pinned.... that's what made me laugh even more ha ha.... Nice one.

Well, I guess it's a lesson learned. Believe it or not, the reason I ride isn't to become the next Baron von Grumble - it's for the sheer enjoyment. My motives, albeit naive, are to try and share that enjoyment through making a few harmless videos. If a handful of people decide to go for a DAS because they've got a handle on the what the process is like and what to expect on the roads because they've chosen to educate themselves on YouTube first - I see that as a positive.

I'm enjoying making new friends, learning about bikes, seeing new places - THAT is what keeps me on two wheels, nothing else. It might be a bit twee and not especially 'cool' for me to want to share that with complete strangers... but I do see it as a harmless and well-meant exercise.

Well - people learn by watching, don't they? I've learnt more on the road than anyone was able to tell me. I personally had a lot of questions answered by watching videos before I started, too.

In any case - apologies to anyone who's taken offence to me posting this here. I fell off a bike. I thought it was funny. I posted it expecting a bit of banter for the fall/ice cream/general knobishness. It seems I may have indadvertedly just strung myself up as a bit of c**t. Ah well.

Yet to find a camera wannabe that doesn't irritate me. You are no different.

Your voice is annoying

You chat utter crap.

Why did you set the camera to watch you eat an ice cream? Do you actually think the world holds you in such high esteem they want to watch you eat an ice cream?????

Here's a list of people I want to watch eat an Icecream

1 - A naked pornstar

2 - A naked stripper

3 - A naked hooker

You don't make the list.

Or did you set the camera up and drop it on purpose so you could post that post on various bike forums to try and gain views on your ego trip?

Yeah actually my crash bung ended up pinning my knee to the kerb with the rest of my leg under the bike.

It wasn't until after the ride home that I started contemplating the fact that the sand around bollards tends to be heavily saturated with dog piss... another punishment for my vlogging/ice cream-eating sins.
