Me and a couple of mates are fitting low cost ham radio set-ups for bike to bike comms.
PMR’s don’t compare cost or function wise, going to go legal too (must be getting old).
£27.50 and a little bit of effort gets me a Foundation Licence and (though it don’t really matter much to me) my own registered call sign.
The Ham radio units can be programmed to pair up with PMR users, so win-win as I see it.
We have the radios (fit under seat and powered by the bike battery), the helmet mic\headphone set, and magnetic aerials to mount to bike frame.
Questions for BCF are:
Cables\Wiring
PTT button and where to mount it, handlebars seem logical, clutch side or brake side?, or alternative suggestions.
Cable connections to the helmet will just plug in (there are external connector ports on or inside the helmets), needs to be quick release and easy to remove from the radio side and stash away out of sight.
Also need quick release connector for externally mounted aerial.
What PTT button\switch and cables do I need, where do I get them from and what would you recommend?
Low cost if that can be done, don’t mind waiting on bits from China; DIY option is good too.
I’ve probably not explained it properly, if any of you guys can help then much appreciated; any questions and I will try to answer.
Sorry for the long post, I don’t understand all the techy bits of bringing it all together, so I’m in need of your help and advice. |
