I went potholing once.

Once.

Fell into a pit while wielding a cockatrice corpse. Sad

It didn't seem that life-threatening after it began to drag on a bit.

It is one of my greatest fears, drowning. That will never change despite knowing someone who did lose consciousness after drowning, but was rescued and resuscitated.

They were trapped underwater for quite a while when a small racing yacht capsized and they eventually accepted the fact they were going to die, and couldn't hold their breath any longer. So they took a breath in and it was water.

The body protects this with a reflex that closes off the windpipe and stops water entering the lungs. Reflex that can save your life, and in this case did.

So when you drown you asphyxiate from lack of oxygen and not from actually inhaling water.

He said the experience was actually quite peaceful and euphoric, which is what you would expect from late stage oxygen deprivation. Still doesn't stop me being scared of drowning.

I've done it before, if your agile and not fat, it's easy. If you're a bit chunky and clumsy and have trouble supporting your weight with your arms, you can get stuck! Found it incredibly amusing when one of the guys we were with got stuck.

Scariest bit for me was the cave spiders.

I hear they're massive. Like proper massive.

At least by UK spider standards

Not done caving but have done quite a few old mines, been in tighter spaces that that loads of times. Can get quite claustrophobic but hey ho. Not been stuck like that but had a few small collapses whilst neck deep in water, definately not pleasant and bum hole goes 5p 10p.

Even had a party in a mine once.
