Here's my video from the final race of the weekend from the Thundersport GB meeting at Brands Hatch Indy which unfortunately ended prematurely after a coming together at Druids!

https://youtu.be/lw2ARPr9g1s

I know I was being a big girl on the first lap but we were held on the grid for about 10 minutes due to a crash on the warm up lap and the Dunlops were a bit twitchy even after a couple of warm up laps!

Thumbs Up

He stayed on and kept going. I didn't fancy my chances heading at that barrier at speed so just laid it down.

Yeah hitting the barrier tends to do more harm than good, particularly to the bike.

That's what I thought! Yeah I'm all good, just scuffed up the bike but nothing bad. Was looking forward to bringing the bike home in one piece before this though.

Awesome man, that's gutting!

Glad you're all good though. I think every video I've watched of yours is you binning a bike of some description Laughing

Do you mind me asking how you got into racing?

Like had you been involved since a young age or just ridden road at a 'fast pace' and fancied a bit of track action?

Played Thumbs Up

Laughing I tend to only upload those clips or my fastest laps now as I think a whole race isn't that interesting for most people until I get quicker and am running at or near the front! I do watch them all back myself though and try learn from them to improve next time I'm out.

I was more annoyed about scuffing my brand new leathers during this, I lost my rag a little bit which should be funny to watch back on the TV coverage. Laughing

I didn't ride a bike until I was 15 and it was a home made jobby in a woods by my mates house, had my CBT and a GPR50 at 16 then full licence and various road bikes from 17 onwards. Did my first track day 2 years ago at 20 on an FZ6 and loved it so spent most of that year doing as many track days as I could working my way up on the fast group once I had my 2000 ZX6R. Did my first race on my 21st birthday this time last year and then did the rest of the season with EMRA in road stocks and got a taste for what other clubs had to offer along the way!

So here I am now, second season in and now getting to grips with my R6 riding with Thundersport which is easily the best organised and fastest club in the country. Starting to learn what it takes to go fast so just sticking and it and seeing where I can get!

Kudos to you man, I remember going to an event at CMC last year, maybe the year before and Jamie Whitham was there and he was saying that anyone can go do a track day, but he had tons of respect for anyone who actually got on the grid and raced competitively. So good on you for doing that.

In an ideal world, I'd have the time and money and talent to do some local race series, but realistically I'm unlikely to have many weekends off, or be earning enough money in the next 5 years, and possibly/probably don't have the talent either. Not done a track day yet, but want to do a novice only day this year, so maybe I'll stick to non competitive track stuff for a while first.

Just get stuck in mate, don't worry about a novice only day just jump in the novice group on a standard day and you'll love it. You will be surrounded by like minded people who like going fast and having a laugh so don't feel intimidated about getting stuck in.

Just be prepared to get hooked! Laughing

I was looking at prices and it seemed that Novice only day was firstly cheaper, but also had more coaching sessions and instructors to help you with racing lines etc.

If I can't get on one I'll just go for the novice group on a normal trackday then

Possibly mate, it's a big club/grid so don't know everyone. Quite a few people fancied a slide down paddock hill that weekend including Phill Crowe battling for the lead of GP1, he got some cracking pictures of it though...

So... assuming that was his fault? How do you proceed with the damage to your bike? Is he liable for it, or do you just go about doing this yourself? Did he apologise?

Glad to see you're okay, you seemed to be doing awesome, too!

It's racing, every man for himself.

I'd expect he did apologise after the race, if not it's pretty harsh. Especially at club level, it is mostly self-funded and it's the rider footing the bills, not a team or whatever.

As he said...it's racing. If I take someone out I don't pay for their bike so it works both ways. I got t boned by a mate of mine at a track day last year which caused quite a bit of damage and almost broke my arm but I shook his hand after and no money was exchanged.

He didn't apologise but I didn't see him afterwards. I was chatting to him after race 1 as we had a good battle, it was only his first race meeting so hopefully he learnt something from it!

What not to go hooning up the inside and use other bikes to slow you down for the corner?

Yeah there's definitely a difference between 'rubbing' and slamming in to someone. I've bumped people before and touch quite often but he just out braked himself there which you can see by him not even attempting to turn in but ah well. I wasn't happy at the time but shit happens.

Lucky I was running a brake lever guard or I would of probably been landing on my face instead of laying it down before the barrier.

Laughing Currently selling 1 legit VIN for an R6. £100 Whistle

Just kidding mate, will likely save you hassle if someone does have a ringer, especially as you are actually racing rather than the occasional track day Laughing

Might look a bit harsh to someone who hasn't raced, but it is pretty common. Glad you're ok and the bikes not too bad. Don't leave a gap next time!
Thought you had to have the vin or chassis numbers on now?

He just out braked himself mate, was a shit move but would of been unintentional and as you say, it happens. I've been t boned 3 times in the last year and one was by a mate which almost broke my arm! I tempted him in to having a dive up the inside by hesitating on the throttle mid corner in paddock which cost me the drive down to druids!

You do have to have them, I put up a picture of my brake lever guard saying I'm glad I had this on but Paddy pointed out that it showed the VIN...

The TV coverage was on last night on Motors TV, caught the crash on my phone, rather funny! Laughing
