Boring thread alert.

I've been looking at travel insurance since I am away a lot but having insurance for a motorcyclist on business(courier), abroad and having had a stroke is proving to be a PITA and means having to read all the exclusions etc to find out how little their 'extensive policy' actually covers.

Reading through some of the wording of the Holiday Safe travel insurance, standard single trip on the google ads this morning.

cover for me is £17 on the standard, £21 for the premier. Saving £4
But, having had a stroke, I have to call them to get another quote which I imagine will cost a shed load more. I won't be calling as the cover, although cheap seems to me to be pretty poor.

If you do buy a policy, don't get the standard policy, it's a crock of shit.

A few things after a bit of a read through the policy
Starred comments are from premier policy

Seems you must travel within the UK for 3 days of your trip before the policy becomes active.

Quote:
This insurance is sold on the understanding that you and
anyone travelling with you and named on the insurance certificate:....

Are not travelling within your home country for less than 3 days on any one trip.

But then
Quote:
: You are not covered under any section, unless specified, for any of the following circumstances:.....

Any trip within your home country of less than 3 days duration or any trip anywhere of more than 31 days duration,

So, needs checking if it is just badly worded, that they only cover for home country only trip of less than 3 days or whether they use 3 days in home country as a cop out to paying most claims.

Also
Cover for gloves £25 Shocked *£75
Boots £150 *£300
Total allowed for all kit £500 (less £75 excess) *£1000

£50 if you need a replacement passport *£150

Quote:
In the policy highlights
If your scheduled airline stops trading - -£1,000

But in the policy wording document

Quote:
You are not covered under any section, unless specified, for any of the following circumstances:.....

Any claim that is due to any failure (including financial) of your travel agent or tour
operator, any transport or accommodation provider, their agent or anybody who is
acting as your agent.

So, if your travel agent, hotel etc goes down the pan, no cover. *same
Is this meant to be confusing or do they have someone making up shit on the web site to make you buy it but then pull out the wording if you attempt to make a claim?

Quote:
If you are unable to travel
because:
The airline on which you are booked becomes insolvent before your departure from your home country causing you financial loss.

If you are on holiday and the airline goes kaput, tough. Although the above excludes any failure of the airline anyway.

£500 to go and collect your bike from Europe if you have to leave it there, hopefully that will be Calais as £500 isn't going to get it back from the ring if you have an off. *£1000

I've given up on this one.

Does anyone have any recommendations of somewhere that provides actual cover for the stuff people need covered at real values?

I seem to have the opposite problem. with travel insurance most of the stuff you pay for is completely irrelevant to touring.

So... i don't bother. My bank gives me travel insurance with more than adequate medical cover. and at the end of the day.. for my purposes - knowing that any medical expenses are covered + repatriation. is the only aspect of travel insurance I need.

Maybe I would think differently if I went outside the EU. but I don't. so I don't.

My bike Insurance takes care of the Bike.. repatriation in case of any accident.

Sooner or later opinions fade and the name on the tank matters not. I think that happens somewhere between 3rd and 4th gear. Enjoy the ride... everything else takes care of itself.
