I have just received my licence back from DVLA after an address change, they have filled in the dates for my cat A the same as my cat B does this mean they have made a mistake and given me my cat A licence?

No, if you pass your car test before the 19th of January 2013 you can ride a trike on your car licence. If you look there's a number next to it - it'll reference you're restricted to being able to ride category A vehicles that are trikes. No motorbike entitlement unfortunately.

After that date, they changed it so you have to pass a bike test to ride a trike. You can't even do your test on a trike unless you're disabled either. Make of that what you will, but either way, you can only ride a trike on your category A entitlement. Very Happy

You've not gained or lost any entitlement, they've just shuffled the vehicles around and what entitlements cover them to keep the mental blokes in Brussels happy.

79 (tri) = trikes.

Everyone's getting understandably confused by this.

Was just going to make a new thread about this but figured I'd ask here,

Anyone translate WTF my paper licence shows?

I passed car test September 2010,

I passed my bike test on the 9/11/2012.

And my card..

I'm guessing somethings wrong?

I really, really, don't want to have to trust the DVLA with anything ever again. Especially reading up on all the horror stories the DVLA don't understand the 33bhp business and fuck it up Rolling Eyes

Why is everything so backward Shocked Twisted Evil

I have no idea what any of it means Mr.Borg. Laughing

Once my restriction period is up, am I required to send it off & why?

To show entitlement on the paper and card licence?

Much appreciated Thumbs Up

As I had it explained to me no legal advice to see here you don't need to send it off or do anyting after the restriction period ends as your D.O.B/License entitlement at the date at which you recieved it will automatically indicate if and when you should be 'unrestricted' etc.

God no, never send off a license.

You get FULL POWAH on 09/11/2014 regardless. If you want a license that says so - and be advised that it will say 09.11.14, as though you passed then - you can just tick the "lost" box and get a copy for £20.

It means that as you are currently on a restricted A licence you have a provisional entitlement to do DAS and gain an unrestricted A before your restriction is up.

Similarly to drive a car with trailer over a certain weight (B+E) you would need to do a further test and you have the provisional entitlement to do that.
