GSXR400RR Newbie

Greetings from Criss to all you Gixxers!
I just bought a GSXR400RR (GK-76A) '95 model done 85K kilometers on the machine. I am still in the process of breaking into the bike. Please advise the pros and cons of this bike in helping me to have a smooth transition with the machine. Thanks to all you experience Gixxers.............Cheers!

85k?! Seems a lot !

I'm no big bike rider, but my best advice on a bike like that is to just take it easy until you find your own limits.

Yeah, I thought 85,000 was a lot. That's nearly 53,000 miles. It has been going for nine years though.

Well for 9 years averaging 8.5K a year would be normal I reckon......But seriously any expert Gixxers who can advise on the pros and cons of the bike would be much appreciated. Example the model over previous ones....engine short commings.....stuff that need particular attention.....electrical faults.....wear and tear to be noted........etc,etc,etc.........Thanks and Cheerio!

Hi there, I think I'm the only other member with a GK76 on here. I've had mine a few months now and loving it. 85,000km does seem an awful lot when mine is a 1990 and had 19,000km when I got it. Has 24,000km now though. No hassles with it so far. Runs great.

Good points:

The GK76a is the top of the range model of the GSXR400's.
Cornering is excellent. I had my knee down pretty much right away on it.
Definetely fast enough. Had mine up to 135mph indicated. Or a true 120mph.

Bad points:

Well I really don't have anything bad to say appart from a couple of bits that I've just been too lazy to fix. They wont be a common problem you'd have to worry about.
One thing I've found is you have to make sure you check the engine oil regularly as it drinks it right up.

A couple of other things that may interest you:

Got a Scorpion exhaust on mines and it adds a fair bit of performance and also sounds great. It is not road legal however.
Pirelli Dragon tyres are awesome when they're heated up. Hold the road banked really far over no problem.

Wow your bike looked everybit a showroom bike and the original Silver paintwork is perfect match for your racing gear..............Your '91 model would make my '95 model looked tired cos its been resprayed by previous owner Red/Black picture will be posted once bike is back from workshop after the bike doc check-up
The bike is original condition after 9 years of wear and tear clocking 86k kilometers though an average of 8.6k a year seems reasonable......Overall looks does seemed very wornout by comparison with yours.........I reckon I may be in for some costly repairs if I am to bring the bike close to your current condition.....So is it worth the trouble to keep this collectors bike as I do have a soft spot for it.......as bikes are getting larger in capicity and more sophisticated with electronics compared with mechanical yesteryear models like this GSXR400RR Well to say the least looking at your pictures I am all fired-up and my sentimental side of me takesover at all costs$ as with my other passion with cars when I spend a fortune in bring back a piece of junk ('73 Peugeot 403....Boat Tail) back into pristine condition and sold it for a song to some avid collector but breaks my heart........Thanks & Cheerio...........Ride Safely

How much did you pay for your bike if you don't mind me asking? I picked mine up for £1700 which seems quite reasonable when comparing the prices of other gixxers around on biketrader.

I'm having some doubts as to upgrade to a bigger bike at all lately. Going fast is all well and good but I get more enjoyment about throwing the little thing round the twisties. Which is very easy to do on this bike. I am thinking of downgearing the bike for more acceleration as I very rarely go over 100mph and it's just asking for trouble anyway.

Well dollar for dollar I paid $2850.00 for the bike in S'pore currency which is to the Pound @ S$3.15 is approx 905 Sterling pounds........though may seem cheep in your terms but you should really evaluate it dollar to dollar.............I reckon the price seems to balance comparing yours a '91 and mine a'95..........but condition wise yours is much in pristine original bike looks. As with any secondhand bikes one must ride it out and litle by little iron out the wrinkles that is fine tuning the electrics and mechanics of the machine crossing fingers that it wont burn your pockets.
